EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE CONDUCTED PUBLIC EDUCATION THROUGH EMAILS TO OUR 800,000 MEMBERS, PHONE BANKING AND SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS TO HIGHLIGHTING THE NEEDS OF THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY, TO ADVANCE SOCIAL JUSTICE AND LGBTQ+ CIVIL RIGHTS AND TO ADDRESS THE DISPARITIES IN HEALTH AND WELLBEING EXPERIENCED BY THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY COMPARED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE HOSTED ITS FIFTH ANNUAL FAIR SHARE FOR EQUALITY CONVENING IN 2019. FAIR SHARE FOR EQUALITY BRINGS TOGETHER HUNDREDS OF LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, EDUCATORS, SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES, AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FROM ACROSS THE STATE TO HELP ADDRESS CHALLENGES FACING THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY AND PEOPLE WITH HIV BY EDUCATING THE COMMUNITY AND POLICYMAKERS ON HOW BEST TO ALLOCATE A "FAIR SHARE" OF GOVERNMENT RESOURCES TO ADVANCE THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF LGBTQ+ CALIFORNIANS. SILVER STATE EQUALITY INSTITUTE, EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE'S STATEWIDE PROGRAM IN NEVADA, BEGAN COMMUNICATING WITH LGBTQ+ NEVADANS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPLETING THE 2020 CENSUS. EQUALITY CALIFORNIA'S FIGHT FUND PROGRAM COLLABORATED WITH GREATER CENTRAL VALLEY ORGANIZATIONS TO ADVANCE HEALTH EQUITY THROUGH OUTREACH TARGETING THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY IN CALIFORNIA. THE PROGRAM INCREASED CIVIC ENGAGEMENT WITHIN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES IN THE GREATER CENTRAL VALLEY THROUGH EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES TARGETING FAITH-BASED COMMUNITIES, IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES, COMMUNITIES OF COLOR, AND THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY. EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE EXPANDED ON OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH IMMIGRATION ORGANIZATIONS, ESTABLISHING AND PARTICIPATING IN COALITIONS OF NONPROFITS AND ADVOCATES WORKING TO EXPAND ACCESS TO QUALITY CARE AND SERVICES FOR LGBTQ+ IMMIGRANTS IN THE BAY AREA, CENTRAL VALLEY AND LOS ANGELES. WE ALSO LED A DELEGATION OF OVER 30 LGBTQ+ ELECTED OFFICIALS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS TO TIJUANA TO MEET WITH LGBTQ+ ASYLUM SEEKERS AND LEARN ABOUT THE REFUGEE CRISIS AT OUR SOUTHERN BORDER. EQUALITY CALIFORNIA'S GEOFF KORS PUBLIC ADVOCATE SUPPORTED EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE'S PUBLIC EDUCATION EFFORTS AROUND CRITICAL PUBLIC POLICY ISSUES FACING THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY.
EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE CONDUCTED COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATED THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE CRITICAL ISSUES IMPACTING THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY PRIDE FESTIVALS AROUND THE STATE TO HELP DRIVE AWARENESS AND EXCITEMENT AROUND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. WITH SUPPORT FROM CALIFORNIA COMPLETE COUNT, CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, CALIFORNIA WELLNESS FOUNDATION AND ADVANCEMENT PROJECT CALIFORNIA, EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE LAUNCHED THE BEGINNING OF A COMPREHENSIVE $1 MILLION STATEWIDE FIELD AND DIGITAL OUTREACH CAMPAIGN IN CALIFORNIA, TO BE COMPLETED IN 2020, AIMED AT INCREASING CENSUS AWARENESS AND IMPROVING SELF-RESPONSE RATES FOR LGBTQ+ PEOPLE PARTICULARLY HARDEST TO COUNT MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE CONDUCTED OVER 11,000 CONVERSATIONS WITH LGBTQ+ CALIFORNIANS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CENSUS AND COLLECTED APPROXIMATELY 9,000 PLEDGES TO COMPLETE THE 2020 CENSUS. EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE ALSO RECRUITED 10 LOCAL LGBTQ+ ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT THE STATE TO SUPPORT CENSUS OUTREACH AND EDUCATION EFFORTS.
WITH THE CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THE CALIFORNIA ENDOWMENT AND GILEAD SCIENCES, INC., EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE CONDUCTED HEALTH HAPPENS WITH EQUALITY TRAININGS TO EDUCATE 393 HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS ACROSS CALIFORNIA ABOUT THE HEALTH NEEDS OF LGBTQ+ PEOPLE, WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON THE LGBTQ+ UNDOCUMENTED COMMUNITY AND HIV PREVENTION AND CARE. EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE ALSO PARTNERED WITH THE CALIFORNIA LGBTQ+ HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES NETWORK AND NORCAL MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA ON #OUT4MENTALHEALTH, A STATEWIDE COALITION-BACKED INITIATIVE AIMED AT REDUCING DISPARITIES IN LGBTQ+ MENTAL HEALTH. EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE CONTINUED TO MANAGE OUT AGAINST BIG TOBACCO, AN ALLIANCE OF LGBTQ+ LEADERS AND COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO REDUCE TOBACCO USE AND HEALTH INEQUITY WITHIN LOS ANGELES COUNTY'S LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY. EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE DELIVERED PRESENTATIONS ON THE HARMS OF BIG TOBACCO TO MORE THAN 500 STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS.
