Organizations Filed Purposes:
Friends of GALA is a non-profit organization focused on removing economic and gender disparities that exist within STEM fields today by removing interpersonal, academic and financial barriers for all girls who attend Girls Academic Leadership Academy, Dr. Michelle King School for STEM.
Administrative Support and Student Support With the addition of the 12th grade, professional development for the high school teachers was important. We funded teachers attendance at the AP Seminar and AP Research conference in Denver, leadership training in Berkley and sponsored in-house coaching for our teachers so that they could better support the students. We also provided equipment, supplies and campus beautification.
Provided cutting-edge science curriculum and equipment for middle school and high school classes, including fully stocked and supported AP classes and labs. We financially supported the expansion of the Robotics curriculum, E-Textile Computer Science as well as field trips to the Long Beach Aquarium. We also provide support for english and humanities curricula.
FOGALA continued to ensure that access to technology would not be a barrier to learning. Each student in grades 7th through 12th received a Chromebook and 6th grade students received a classroom set of Chromebooks. The Chromebooks were installed with the necessary software that allowed the students to do research, develop presentation materials and prepare for AP exams.
