Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE GO FOR BROKE NATIONAL EDUCATION CENTER IS TO EDUCATE AND INSPIRE CHARACTER AND EQUALITY THROUGH THE VIRTUE AND VALOR OF OUR WORLD WAR II AMERICAN VETERANS OF JAPANESE ANCESTRY.

EXHIBITS: 1) INTERPRETIVE CENTER - LOCATED IN THE HEART OF LOS ANGELES' LITTLE TOKYO HISTORIC DISTRICT, GO FOR BROKE NATIONAL EDUCATION CENTER'S "DEFINING COURAGE" EXHIBITION PROVIDES A HANDS-ON, EXPERIENCE-BASED APPROACH THAT ENGAGES VISITORS THROUGH PARTICIPATORY LEARNING EXPERIENCES. IT EXPLORES THE CONCEPT OF COURAGE THROUGH THE LIVES OF YOUNG JAPANESE AMERICANS OF WORLD WAR II AND TEACHES THEIR HISTORY AND ITS RELEVANCE TO OUR LIVES TODAY. TEMPORARY EXHIBITS ARE FEATURED WITHIN THE INTERPRETIVE CENTER THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND ACT AS ADDITIONS TO THE "DEFINING COURAGE" EXHIBIT, FURTHER EMPHASIZING THE NISEI VETERAN EXPERIENCE FROM WWII. 2) TRAVELING EXHIBIT - IN JULY 2017, GO FOR BROKE NATIONAL EDUCATION CENTER LAUNCHED A TRAVELING EXHIBITION ENTITLED "COURAGE AND COMPASSION: OUR SHARED STORY OF THE JAPANESE AMERICAN WORLD WAR II EXPERIENCE," WHICH CHRONICLES THE STORIES OF JAPANESE AMERICANS DURING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER WWII. USING IMAGES, AUDIO, AND INTERACTIVE ELEMENTS, IT PROVIDES A 360-DEGREE PERSPECTIVE OF THEIR WWII EXPERIENCE, WHILE EXPLORING ITS RELEVANCE TODAY. 3) MONUMENT - THE GO FOR BROKE MONUMENT SYMBOLIZES, AND PAYS TRIBUTE TO, THE NISEI SOLDIERS' COURAGE, HONOR, AND SACRIFICE IN THE FACE OF STRUGGLE AND RACISM AND SERVES AS A REMEMBRANCE SO THAT THESE INDIVIDUALS WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN. TO PRESERVE THE MONUMENT FOR VISITORS AND FUTURE GENERATIONS, THE MONUMENT IS CLEANED AND POLISHED, THE SURROUNDING AREA IS LANDSCAPED, AND THE VISITOR KIOSK, LIGHTING, AND 24-HOUR VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM ARE MAINTAINED.

EDUCATION: GO FOR BROKE NATIONAL EDUCATION CENTER OPERATES A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS RELATED TO THE PRESERVATION, PERPETUATION, AND SHARING OF THE NISEI SOLDIER LEGACY. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE COLLECTING ORAL HISTORIES OF JAPANESE AMERICAN VETERANS OF WORLD WAR II AND POST-WAR JAPAN OCCUPATION, INTEGRATING THOSE INTERVIEWS INTO SCHOOL LESSON PLANS, PROVIDING INTERNSHIPS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS, DEVELOPING A COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, PRODUCING EDUCATIONAL DVDS, AND ENHANCING EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES ON ITS WEBSITE.

OUTREACH: GO FOR BROKE NATIONAL EDUCATION CENTER OFFERS SCHOOL TOURS FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 5-12 AND PAIRS THE TOURS WITH A WORKSHOP ON ORAL HISTORIES WITH THE GOAL TO INSPIRE NEW GENERATIONS TO EMBODY THE VETERANS' VALUES OF COURAGE, EQUALITY, HUMILITY, AND PATRIOTISM. ADDITIONALLY, VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE OFFERED TO PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, INCLUDING STUDENTS NEEDING COMMUNITY SERVICE CREDITS.
