Every night a community comes together at the corner of Sycamore and Romaine. GWHFC volunteers serve hot, fresh, and nutritious meals to the hungry. The volunteers get to know them and help them to think better of themselves and to seek help which GWHFC tries to provide.
Hot Meal Program -GWHFC, a broad-based grass-roots organization, served the homeless and hungry every day since 1987! Every night between 6:15 and 7:30 a community comes together at the barren street corner of Sycamore and Romaine, along the border of Hollywood and West Hollywood. On one side of the table are the volunteers. On the other side are between 150 and 200 men and women who have somehow fallen through the cracks, and for whom the meal they are about to each, sumptuous as it is, might well be the only meal they have all day.During the fourth quarter 2013, we served 13,800 hot, healthy, nutritious and absolutely free meals.
General Assistance Program -GWHFC provided direct cash assistance, transportation, shelter and housing, telephone assistance, and storage facilities to dozens of people in three (3) months.Since 1999, the Coalition has worked in close partnership with UCLA's Mobile Clinic Project to help remedy mental health, substance abuse, gender-based violence, domestic abuse, legal challenges, and more.
