The Harold Robinson Foundation provides inner city and underprivileged children the means, free of cost, to attend a safe, nurturing and noncompetitive camp environment. Due to Covid-19, the foundation was able to provide a Virtual Camp experience via an internet connection to children in Watts as well as providing free WiFi connections throughout the community. Additionally, they were the key element, on the ground, for the distribution of over 20,000 Tons of fresh boxed produce donated by the US Dept of Agriculture. They accepted, boxed and transported the food over a 12-week period, making 6 different community distribution dates. Each date included 5 separate distribution locations within Watts.
During the fiscal year ending 7/31/2020, due to Covid-19 the foundation was restricted form doing any in-person programming after February 2020, thus many of their Winter Camp programs and all of the Sprint Camp programs were cancelled. Likewise, the Summer Camp (Camp Ubuntu Watts) held on the Markham Middle School campus in Watts was also cancelled. The Foundation was able to hold a Virtual Camp Ubuntu Watts, by offering virtual access to counselor and specialist teaching many of the subjects and some new ones via an internet connection. The Foundation was instrumental in gaining approximately 1500 tablets for distribution to Kids in watts as well as extending Free internet (WiFi) connections throughout the community. Additionally, they were the key element, on the ground, for the distribution of over 20,000 Tons of fresh boxed produce donated by the US Dept of Agriculture. They accepted, boxed and transported the food over a 12-week period, making 6 different community distribution dates. Each date included 5 separate distribution locations within Watts.
