Organizations Filed Purposes:
Initiate Justice's mission is to end mass incarceration by activating the power of the people it directly impacts. We organize our members, inside and outside of prisons, and empower them to advocate for their freedom and change criminal justice policy in California.
Inside-Outside Organizing: Initiate Justice has an inside-outside strategy where we prioritize organizing people directly impacted by incarceration, inside and outside prison walls. Our inside organizing takes place in prison visiting rooms, in front of state prisons, and inside prisons themselves. Our outside organizing occurs through membership meetings and member committees that meet monthly with participants from around CA, as well as through the Institute of Impacted Leaders, a 12-week organizing training and leadership development program designed for people directly impacted by mass incarceration. We also keep our community informed on the latest changes to California laws and prison policies that will affect them. We create guides and offer trainings on how the public policy process works and how to create, support, and implement reforms. By the end of 2020, we will have sent more than 200,000 quarterly newsletters to our incarcerated members.
