Regional Summit:Native Americans in Philanthropy held its 30th Anniversary Celebration & Regional Summit in Chicago, IL in September 2019. This signature event hosted supporters, allies, and Native leaders across geographies, sectors, and cultural communities. During this important time of learning, we shared learned experiences and celebrated the longevity and hard work of NAP throughout the years. The Summit gave us time to hear from Native leaders from across Indian Country about the important work that is happening to affect positive change and healing in our communities and the ways in which organizations and professionals in philanthropy can support the growth of this good work.
Web Portal:NAP partnered with Candid, formerly Foundation Center and GuideStar, to develop a multi-content web portal housing rich information about philanthropic funding related to and for Native Americans. The portal is populated with grants data, news stories, research, funder insights, educational content, and other information that enables users to determine what funding to Native people and issues currently looks like, research best practices in inclusive and strategic grantmaking rooted in Native values, and learn about Native history and issues as critical context for decision-making. It also give us funding data related to trends over time which is critical information to our field. The portal was launched in September 2019.
Generation Indigenous:Native Americans in Philanthropy, in partnership with The Minneapolis Foundation, released its fourth round of #Generation Indigenous (#GenI) Response Fund grants. The #GenI Response Fund was established in 2016 to bridge funders and organizers to support a collective commitment to, and invest in, Indigenous young people. With these funds, grantees are able to make meaningful impact and serve the unique needs of their community. A variety of projects focusing on strategic communications, juvenile justice, resiliency, traditional knowledge, sustainability, gender justice, health and wellness, trauma, and healing were represented by 17 organizations in 2020. In addition, Native Americans in Philanthropy continues to engage Native youth and organizations to further support the important visioning and conversations imperative to keep Generation Indigenous moving forward.
