Organizations Filed Purposes:
To help create an ecological civilization, that is, to promote a way of life that will bring us into a more harmonious felationship to the natural and social worlds of which we are a part.
In 2019, there was no adjustment from our key focus, which remained to accelerate social and environmental impact with project-driven, values-oriented, and transdisciplinary initiatives, largely targeting Los Angeles County. Our aim is to strengthen community resilience, in alignment with the LA County Sustainability plan (Our County LA), integrating care of the Earth and care for each other which Pope Francis describes in terms of "integral ecology". As in previous years, we continue to define our work in broadly educational terms, with our initiatives and events serving the fundamental purpose of educating for the common good. We continued to work vigorously with the range of diverse social justice and environmental organizations with which we have nurtured relations since our founding, and extending outreach further. These groups include NGO, academic, government, business, and faith-based organizations. Our web-based presence (www.pandopopulus.com) remains as an active information and education hub; and we continue active social media presence over FaceBook, Twitter, and Instagram. Our newsletter, ROOTBALL, goes out to our community every couple of months to update them on our progress and solicit their involvement. Out YouTube channel remains active with our content.Special Initiatives for 2019 included:- Magenta House: a project on water and power conservation and efficiency for Council District 5 in Los Angeles. The initiative created a pop-up demonstration and education site that's fun for the whole family, with supporting materials on water and power use. This project continues into 2020.- Pando Days: a major event bringing together 10 Southland colleges and universities to create new initiatives and compaigns focused on goals from the LA County sustainability plan. The initiative launched at teh La Brea Tar Pits campus with a following brainstorming blitz at teh Agoura Hills campus of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.- Panod at Maryknoll: a collaboration with the Maryknoll Sisters in Monrovia to demonstrate, educate about, and accelerate LA County sustainability. 2019 was the second year of a prototype period. Three Pando Fellows, two interns, and two artists in residence were at various times on campus.Supporting networks we nurtured included:- CSO Strategic Taskforce: multiple Taskforce events were organized throughout the year, including Pando Days planning and events, as a Taskforce-sponsored initiative.- Pandotopia Network: a nework for religious women which we continued to nurture.
