Special Needs Network provides advocacy resources and services to families raising children with autism and related disorders. Its work focuses on families who live in under-served communities and children of color.
Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD) - the clinic provides a medical home for children with learning, developmental and mental health issues by offering comprehensive assessments, ABA, speech and occupational therapy, and other needed services. The wide range of free or low-cost health and social services targets at-risk and low-income youth and families and provides services such as family counseling, legal support services, and educational training for parents and caretakers.
Camp JPAC - Every summer, hundreds of special needs children and their siblings come to Joe Patton Academy Camp (Camp JPAC) a safe, fun, nurturing haven on a beautifully secluded campus North of LAX. This unique camp experience includes a full academic enrichment program, sports, and art. Our campers enjoy swimming, football, soccer, kickball, bowling, drama, music, dance, ceramics, and other art instruction. In previous years, special treats have included: a trip to the California Science Center for a behind-the-scenes look at the new Dinosaur Hall in the Natural History Museum; a basketball training camp provided by the Los Angeles Sparks; history lessons from the "American Promise", presented by Farmers Insurance; and a state-of-the-art robotics program designed by the University of Southern California professors. With an impressive 3 to 1 adult to student ratio, Camp JPAC is the only free summer inclusion camp in Los Angeles for special needs children and their siblings. The camp provides hundreds of children and young teens (ages 5 to 16), both typically-developing and developmentally disabled, with a full-day summer enrichment program that includes a STEAM academic program, sports, field trips, and hot lunches and snacks.
Community Outreach - During this three year period, SNN also launched a state-wide advocacy training program for 75 nonprofits and community based organizations; an advocacy training for 100 local military families; hosted 800 children at our summer camp - Camp JPAC; trained over 300 student youth leaders; hosted a townhall on homelessness and the disability community for 300 participants; hosted an informational autism conference for 450 parents and hosted a community health fair in each year for 1500 participants. This is just a sample of the various programmatic offerings that the organization successfully offers every year. SNN continued to raise awareness and address disparities in state spending and care for underserved populations through its awareness campaigns, outreach services and policy advocacy campaigns.
