UNITE-LA WORKS ON BEHALF OF LOCAL YOUTH BY PROVIDING PROGRAMMATIC SUPPORT FROM CRADLE-TO-CAREER; IN OUR SYSTEMS CHANGE AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS - BROKERING PARTNERSHIPS TO GRANT EQUAL ACCESS AND ACHIEVE SYSTEMIC CHANGE; AND IN ISSUES, ADVOCACY AND EXPERTISE - ADVOCATING AT THE LOCAL, REGIONAL, STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS TO BUILD EQUITABLE INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORKS SERVING YOUTH AND FAMILIES.UNITE-LA PROVIDES DIRECT SERVICES TO MORE THAN 30,000 STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS IN THE LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (LAUSD), AND INDIRECTLY REACHES HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS, TEACHERS, PARENTS AND OTHER SCHOOL COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY THROUGH ITS PROGRAMS, SERVICES, EVENTS AND MEDIA CAMPAIGNS.

TO ENSURE THE IMPROVEMENT OF EFFECTIVE PUBLIC EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SYSTEMS IN LA.

L.A CASH FOR COLLEGE: L.A. CASH FOR COLLEGE (LA-CFC) PROVIDES DIRECT SUPPORT TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES IN COLLABORATION WITH A WIDE NETWORK OF NONPROFIT COLLEGE ACCESS PROVIDERS, HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELORS AND LOCAL HIGHER EDUCATION ADMISSIONS STAFF. LA-CFC EFFECTIVELY BRIDGES THE GAP BETWEEN K-12 AND POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION TO CREATE SEAMLESS ONRAMPS INTO HIGHER EDUCATION FOR FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE-GOING STUDENTS. LACFC FOCUSES ON ACTIVITIES THAT PROVIDE WIDE-SCALE IMPACT AND A LEVEL OF SUPPORT, EXCITEMENT AND ENGAGEMENT THAT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE FOR A SINGLE SCHOOL OR NON-PROFIT. PROGRAMMING IS YEARLONG. THE COLLEGE & CAREER CONVENTION (FALL) HELPS PREPARE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES FOR THE COLLEGE APPLICATION AND FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION PROCESSES. ADDITIONALLY, FINANCIAL AID COMPLETION WORKSHOPS (OCTOBER-MARCH) PROVIDE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WITH ASSISTANCE COMPLETING FAFSA AND CALIFORNIA DREAM ACT APPLICATIONS FOR FINANCIAL AID. FINALLY, OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (SPRING) SERVES AS AN IMPORTANT INCENTIVE FOR FAMILIES TO ACCESS GRANT AID FOR WHICH THEY ARE ELIGIBLE. L.A. CASH FOR COLLEGE ALSO WORKS CLOSELY WITH HUNDREDS OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS, COLLEGE COUNSELORS AND FRONTLINE STAFF TO KEEP FINANCIAL AID COMPLETION AT THE FOREFRONT OF THEIR EFFORTS TO IMPROVE COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS. EACH YEAR, LA-CFC SERVES APPROXIMATELY 10,000 STUDENTS AND FAMILIES AND WORKS WITH OVER 150 COMMUNITY PARTNERS.

LA YOUTH AT WORK (LAYAW): OUR L.A. YOUTH AT WORK PROGRAM DEMONSTRATES SUCCESS BEGINS WITH PREPARATION. WE SEE THIS WHEN OUR YOUTH ARE PLACED INTO L.A. AREA JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS. LAYAW IS TRANSFORMING YOUNG, DISADVANTAGED, ADULT LIVES BY INCREASING STABILITY, INDEPENDENCE AND CONFIDENCE. LAYAW GALVANIZES SUPPORT FROM THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY FOR YOUNG ADULT EMPLOYMENT IN LOS ANGELES AND PREPARES YOUTH, AGES 16-24 YEARS OLD, FOR MEANINGFUL INTERNSHIPS AND WORK EXPERIENCE. L.A. YOUTH AT WORK OFFERS FREE JOB SKILLS WORKSHOPS, WORK READINESS CERTIFICATION SESSIONS AND HIRING EVENTS. AT JOB SKILLS WORKSHOPS, YOUTH LEARN NECESSARY SOFT SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT ENTRY-LEVEL POSITIONS. WORK READINESS CERTIFICATION SESSIONS PREPARE YOUTH FOR REAL-WORLD HIRING PROCESSES, INCLUDING: SUBMITTING A RESUME, COMPLETING AN APPLICATION, AND INTERVIEWING WITH AN EMPLOYER. HIRING EVENTS GIVE PARTICIPANTS WITH WORK READINESS CERTIFICATES ACCESS TO APPROXIMATELY 2,500 JOB OPPORTUNITIES FROM APPROXIMATELY 100 EMPLOYERS.

BUSINESS EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS:THE BUSINESS EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM PARTNERS THE LOS ANGELES BUSINESS COMMUNITY WITH THE LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (LAUSD) TO BENEFIT LOCAL SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS. THE BUSINESS EDUCATIONPARTNERSHIP TEAM OFFERS BUSINESSES AND PROFESSIONALS DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE IN LOS ANGELES SCHOOLS. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LAUSD CAREER PATHWAY HIGH SCHOOLS, BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS PARTICIPATE IN CLASSROOM SPEAKING, CAREER DAYS, JOB SHADOWING, TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, TEACHER EXTERNSHIPS AND OFFER INTERNSHIPS TO HELP STUDENTS BECOME AWARE, EXPLORE, PREPARE AND PRACTICE DIFFERENT CAREERS.
