Organizations Filed Purposes: TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE RESIDENTS OF WATTS AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDUCATIONAL, CIVIC AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES.

THE WATTS LABOR COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE (WLCAC) WAS FOUNDED AS A NON-PROFIT, 501 (C) 3 COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATION INCORPORATED IN 1965, AND HAS CONTINUOUSLY WORKED TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR RESIDENTS OF THE WATTS AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES WITHOUT INTERRUPTION. WLCAC HAS SERVED MORE THAN 30,000 RESIDENTS ANNUALLY IN SOUTH LOS ANGELES BY PROVIDING HIGH-QUALITY HOUSING, HEALTH, ECONOMIC, EDUCATION, AND ADVOCACY SERVICES.OUR PRIMARY GOALS ARE TO:- ASSIST RESIDENTS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO COLLECTIVELY IMPROVE THEIR ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND HEALTH ENVIRONMENTS- PROVIDE A WIDE RANGE OF HOUSING, SOCIAL, AND ARTS SERVICES FOR LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS- DELIVER SKILLS TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES- WORK WITH AND COORDINATE ACTIVITIES WITH OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS IN THE FURTHERANCE OF COMMON GOALS.AT TEN SATELLITE SITES THAT COMPRISE THE WLCAC CAMPUS, OUR SERVICES FOR CLIENTS AS YOUNG AS TEN YEARS OLD AND OLDER THAN OCTOGENARIANS INCLUDE:- ARTS EDUCATION- CULTURAL HERITAGE AND HISTORY EDUCATION- EMPLOYMENT TRAINING- FAMILY COUNSELING- HOUSING PROGRAMS- HOMELESS SERVICES- GANG PREVENTION- REENTRY PROGRAM- ENERGY CONSERVATION AND MINOR HOME REPAIRS- URBAN FARMING- URBAN GREENING- CONSTRUCTION- PERFORMANCE ARTS- CHILD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT- SENIOR SOCIAL AND NUTRITION SERVICESFOR THE PAST FIFTY-THREE YEARS, WLCAC HAS OPERATED EVOLVING PROGRAMS UNDER DIFFERENT CONTRACTS IN THESE AREAS. EXAMPLES OF CURRENT PROGRAMS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: THE WORKSOURCE (WSC), YOUTH WORKSOURCE CENTER (YWSC), YOUTH ENRICHMENT AND GANG PREVENTION SERVICES, CHILD DEVELOPMENT, NUTRITION AND SOCIAL SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY, FAMILY SOURCE CENTER (FSC), GANG REDUCTION AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT (GRYD), PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING SERVICES, ENERGY CONSERVATION AND MINOR HOME REPAIRS SERVICES, URBAN GREENING, AND OTHER SERVICES. WLCAC IS SIGNIFICANTLY INVESTED IN THE COMMUNITY IT SERVES, OPERATING MORE THAN TEN SATELLITE SERVICE OFFICES IN THE WATTS NEIGHBORHOOD, INCLUDING ITS SEVEN-ACRE ART FACILITY AND HEADQUARTERS SITE AND A RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY PORTFOLIO OF MORE THAN 500 LOW INCOME HOUSING UNITS.THE WLCAC SERVICE AREA PRIMARILY FOCUSES ON THE GEOGRAPHIC NEIGHBORHOOD WITHIN THE 10 FREEWAY TO THE NORTH, ALAMEDA BLVD TO THE EAST, ROSECRANS BLVD TO THE SOUTH, AND VERMONT AVE TO THE WEST. THE BROADER AREA SERVED INCLUDES FLORENCE-FIRESTONE, SOUTH GATE, NORWALK, EAST RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, HUNTINGTON PARK, CUDAHY, COMPTON/ROSEWOOD/WILLOWBROOK, SOUTH EAST LOS ANGELES, MAYWOOD, AND OTHER UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES' SUPERVISORIAL DISTRICT 2, SOME OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY'S MOST IMPOVERISHED NEIGHBORHOODS.
