Organizations Filed Purposes: The California Capital Airshow is dedicated to promoting the importance of aviation for continued economic growth, inspirational and educational opportunities for youth, and enhancing awareness for the service of our military men and women. The airshow uses the power and magic of flight to remember the past by honoring veterans, recognize the present by providing year-round educational programs and scholarships for young people and prepares for the future by introducing students to and informing them about careers in science, technology, engineering, math, aviation and aerospace.

The California Capital Airshow is the premier Sacramento Regional event showcasing aviation. In delivering the ultimate family adventure, the airshow celebrates patriotism, supports stem and aviation scholarships and education, and offers fundraising opportunities for charities while also contributing to the local economy.

The California Capital Airshows programs, exhibits and outreach events provide no-cost learning opportunities for educators and an opportunity for academic enrichment in a unique environment as well as helping to create a better pool of future employees for regional companies. All CCAs efforts are designed to spark the imagination of students, teach them something that a book, classroom or museum cannot. The Airshow strives to make an impact each year to our community and beyond. These are just a few powerful examples of how Airshows can change the worldone kid at a time.AIRSHOW WEEKEND:LAUNCHPAD: The LaunchPad experience targets teens with a dynamic, interactive STEM enrichment exhibit that promotes possibilities within the STEM subject areas (science, technology, engineering and math) as the students consider college and career choices. LaunchPad combines students love of games and technology with real world application. Filled with aircraft, space artifacts, simulators, VR activities and more, guests can watch demonstrations, participate in games and experience first-hand the clear relationship between the aviation, aerospace and STEM studies. Volunteer counselors, local youth organizations and academic institutions helped over 12,000 young people understand how they can continue their interest in STEM education, including creating a school-to-career blueprint and information on how to join and pursue STEM-related fun and interesting activities long after the Airshow gates closed. This progressive collaboration between the California Capital Airshow, caring community partners and regional educators produce this massive 25,000 square foot pavilion allowing students and their parents the opportunity to enjoy a hand-on educational experience designed to spark the interest of young adults and their involvement with STEM while helping to provide the aviation and aerospace industries with a new generation of professionals. ROBOTICS COMPETITION: The First Robotics Competition at the Airshow combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. High-school students from across the region are challenged to build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. Its as close to real-world engineering as a student can get and the public gets an up close look at what these students have accomplished and the chance to share group/club opportunities like this with other young people. DRONE HANGAR: The Drone Hangar at the Airshow offers a chance to see the many functions, capabilities and benefits of drone technology. Visitors enjoy hands-on instruction, activities and demonstrations by the leaders in this cutting-edge industry as they inspire the next generation to explore the endless career opportunities as well as rethink, reimagine and reinvent the future of UAV Technology. Drones, aka unmanned aerial vehicles or UAV, have entered the public conscious in a major way in the past few years. This unique event educated attendees on the many functions and abilities of drones as well as the capacities and benefits of drone technology in a variety of industries. Guests to this interactive exhibit area enjoy hands-on instruction, activities and demonstrations by the leaders in this cutting-edge industry. With an expected $82 billion market on the horizon and 100,000 U.S. job opportunities within the next 10 years, we work to inspire the next generation to explore the many career opportunities and to rethink, reimagine and reinvent the future of UAV Technology. We invite our closest community partners to join us each year and share their companys innovative use of drones as an efficient 21st century tool.KIDDIE HAWK: The kids zone area at the California Capital Airshow hosts over 7,000 children and their parents each year. This area for the younger ones provides engaging activities for kids, while their parents and guardians enjoy relief from the heat without missing the amazing views of the flight line. This area is full of education, interactive activities such as the raceway exhibit that teaches about gravity and the dress-up career and photo station that keep children playing, creating and exploring. By visiting this special learning pavilion and play area its easy to see and feel the palpable fun, excitement and opportunity that Kiddie Hawk provides young minds as they are exposed to the elementary delights of flying airplanes and aeronautical movement. The area also offers free family services including diaper changing stations, sponsor stations, complimentary water and lost parents area.SALUTE TO VETERANS: Each year the California Capital Airshow highlights an important moment in history and showcases heroes and legends as its overall theme. The selected historic event is brought to life with an authentic, theatrical production including with heart-stopping choreography, professional military re-enacters, costumes, live music, thundering pyrotechnics and often emotional narration. Past themes have included sharing the incredible stories of silent, unsung heroes including WWII Veterans, Wounded Warriors, 9/11 Responders, Pearl Harbor Survivors, those who played a key role in the air and on the ground during the Berlin Airlift and more. The humble heroes that these thrilling performances honor participate further by enjoying the rest of show weekend in special areas that provide shade, lunch and a chance to share their stories and experiences personally with the families who attend each year. These annual productions are our way of honoring these courageous souls who have served and sacrificed to make our country and our communities better places in which to live. This part of the show is another unique platform for the public to learn about our nations history in detail, meet heroes and legends in person as well as show gratitude to those who have served and sacrificed to provide the freedoms we all enjoy today.

Youth Programs:POSITIVE ALTITUDE: Using the power and magic of flight, hundreds of disadvantaged students from all over the Sacramento region enjoy an eye-opening afternoon of endless opportunity, inspiration and life-changing possibilities. The event regularly includes an interesting motivational speaker, lunch and snacks, actual flight training opportunity and the chance for students to ask questions. Folks with colorful airplanes, helicopters, police and fire vehicles and more are on hand to provide exciting and interactive experiences that expand a students imagination and broaden their outlook on life, as well as their view of the world. Attendees have the opportunity to rub shoulders with men and women who have used their education to change the world. This annual event has inspired kids to strive for a better life, informed them about STEM careers & scholarships and encouraged them to reach for the stars. A DAY AT THE AIRPORT, CAREER DAY FIELD TRIP SERIES: Each spring kindergartners visit Mather Airport monthly to explore the exciting jobs that our partners do each and every day. Students meet representatives that provide a brief overview about their important duties, take questions and allow students to explore their unique vehicle or aircraft. The students rotate every 30 minutes to the next station and next profession. Students depart each field trip day with new knowledge of what really happens inside the airport security gates AND what exciting career opportunities lie ahead for them at the airport.EXPLORE THE DRONE ZONE: Drones, aka unmanned aerial vehicles or UAV, have entered the public conscious in a major way in the past few years. With an expected $82 billion market on the horizon and 100,000 U.S. job opportunities within the next 10 years, we hope to inspire the next generation to explore the endless career opportunities as well as rethink, reimagine and reinvent the future of UAV Technology. OPERATION #INSPIRETHEFUTURE TICKET INCENTIVE PROGRAM: Students from twenty local schools receive FREE tickets (1 youth and 1 adult) to the annual California Capital Airshow. These tickets are distributed throughout the month prior to the show to ensure there are no barriers for Title I School students who want to attend the Airshow, an event filled with educational and inspirational opportunities. Each student who earned a free ticket through academics or citizenship also received complimentary access for one parent to attend. Each student will earn a free ticket through academics or citizenship. THE STEM EXPO: Hundreds of high school students visit the Airshow on Friday morning for the unique opportunity to hear from headlining pilots and crew about their path to becoming an advanced pilot. The kids will also have the chance to test fly all the interactive assets in the LaunchPad Pavilion prior to the gates opening for the weekend.
