MATE II is formed to inspire and challenge students to learn and creatively apply science, technology, art, engineering and math to solving real-world problems in a way that strengthens critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
The MATE II international ROV (remotely operated vehicle or underwater robot) competition challenges students to learn and creatively apply STEM skills to solve real-world problems and strengthen their critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Each spring, more than 6,000 students in grades 4-16 participate in one of 37 regional events that take place around the world (see www.marinetech.org/regional-contest) and feed into the international championship in June. The organization also conducts summer camps and teacher workshops to provide training for competition participants.
