CREATING IMPACT THROUGH COLLABORATION: 2-1-1 MONTEREY COUNTY CONTINUED PROVIDING PERSONAL BILINGUAL REFERRALS TO HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES VIA PHONE, INTERNET, AND TEXT, WITH A LARGE INCREASE IN SERVICES IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19. WE SPOKE WITH 12,361 CALLERS, RESPONDED TO 542 TEXT EXCHANGES, AND HAD 13,731 WEBSITE SEARCHES. CONTINUED PARTNERSHIP WITH CAL AM WATER COMPANY PROVIDED RATEPAYER HARDSHIP ASSISTANCE OF $30,671 TO 55 HOUSEHOLDS. ADDED KINSHIP NAVIGATOR PROGRAM WITH FOCUSED RESOURCES FOR KINSHIP FAMILIES AND GRANTED $30,000 TO COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION. EXPANDED CLOSED LOOP REFERRAL SYSTEM WITH $27,500 GRANTED TO ACTIVE REFERRAL NETWORK PARTNERS. IMPACT MONTEREY COUNTY: PROVIDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, TRAINING AND ADVOCACY AROUND SYSTEMS CHANGE TO FACILITATE COLLABORATION AND REDUCE DUPLICATION AMONGST COLLECTIVE IMPACT INITIATIVES.
BUILDING FINANCIAL STABILITY: VITA, THE VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE SERVICE, HELPED 1,712 PEOPLE FILE THEIR TAX RETURNS AND GENERATED $3.7 MILLION IN REFUNDS THROUGH 135 VOLUNTEERS AND 12 SITES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY; PROVIDED VOLUNTEER PLACEMENTS FOR 108 CALWORKS CUSTOMERS TO BUILD SKILLS AND CREATE A PATH TO EMPLOYMENT. FINANCIAL COACHING AND CASE MANAGEMENT FOR 32 INDIVIDUALS; FINANCIAL LITERACY WORKSHOPS PRESENTED TO 391 RESIDENTS BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL. PILOTED NEW TRAINING AND SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS APPLYING FOR COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID IN THE SALINAS VALLEY, CONTRIBUTING TO A 5% INCREASE IN FAFSA APPLICATIONS FOR HARTNELL COLLEGE FEEDER SCHOOLS. CONTINUED ADVOCACY FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING, LAUNCHED AN INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS AS PART OF GROWING INFILL HOUSING SUPPLY.
EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION: TO ALLOW PARENTS TO EARN AND THEIR CHILDREN TO LEARN, UWMC IS WORKING TO EXPAND QUALITY EARLY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES. UWMC HAS BEEN COLLABORATING WITH COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO CHILD CARE THROUGH THE CHANGING CONDITIONS AND REGULATIONS BROUGHT ON BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. GRANTED $95,715 TO THE COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP OF SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY (INFORMAL CAREGIVER SUPPORT SYSTEM), $21,090 TO LAURAS BARN (TO EXPAND CLASSROOM SPACE FOR 24 TODDLERS). PROVIDED ADMINISTRATION OF MONTEREY COUNTY CHILDRENS COUNCIL. STUFF THE BUS PROVIDED SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, GENERATING 4,303 BACKPACKS FILLED WITH SUPPLIES AND DISTRIBUTED BY SCHOOL DISTRICT HOMELESS LIAISONS COUNTYWIDE.
