Organizations Filed Purposes: SUPPORTS QUALITY OF LIFE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH A PERSON-CENTERED APPROACH TO SELF-DISCOVERY, COMMUNITY-ENGAGEMENT, EMPLOYMENT, AND EDUCATION.

IN THIS FISCAL YEAR IMPERIAL WAY HAS ASSISTED OVER 46% OF THE 86 INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENT DISABILITY WE SUPPORTED TO HAVE A JOB IN THE NAPA COMMUNITY WORKING, OVER 2,532 HOURS MAKING MINIMUM WAGE. HOUSEKEEPING, LITTER ABATEMENT, AND YARD MAINTENANCE ARE JUST A FEW EXAMPLES OF JOBS PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES SUPPORTED BY THE IMPERIAL WAY PROGRAM WERE EMPLOYED AT IN FISCAL YEAR 2019-20. PEOPLE HAVE A CHOICE OF THE CLASSES THEY ATTEND, PAID OR VOLUNTEER WORK AND ARE SUPPORTED IN AN EVER-EVOLVING PERSON CENTERED STYLE. WORK OPPORTUNITIES AND CHOICES OF THINGS TO DO IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WERE INCREASING UNTIL COVID-19 AND THE PEOPLE WE SUPPORT HAD TO SHELTER-IN-PLACE. (UNFORTUNATELY PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ARE FOUR TIMES MORE LIKELY TO CONTRACT COVID-19. THOSE THAT CONTRACT COVID-19 DIE AT NEARLY TWICE THE RATE AS OTHERS FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS, INCLUDING A HIGHER RATE OF PREEXISTING HEALTH CONDITIONS, LIVING IN A SETTING WITH ROOMMATES OR GROUP HOMES, ETC.) SO NAPA VALLEY SUPPORT SERVICES (NVSS) ROSE TO THE OPPORTUNITY CREATING ALTERNATIVE SUPPORTS: LIKE CALLING FOR WELLNESS CHECKS, SUPPORTING PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO BE SAFE, AND DEVELOPING ON-LINE CLASS THROUGH ZOOM. SINCE MANY OF THE JOBS WE SUPPORT PEOPLE IN EVENTUALLY WERE DETERMINED TO BE LOW RISK NVSS SUPPORTED PEOPLE BY PROVIDING 1-1 RIDES (WITH ALL PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT IN PLACE) SO PEOPLE COULD GO BACK TO WORK OUTSIDE DOING LITER ABATEMENT AND YARD MAINTENANCE.

THE BROWN STREET GALLERY (BSG) IS A STUDIO-BASED PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. PEOPLE EARN AN INCOME THROUGH THEIR ART AND CRAFTS. THROUGH THE BSG PEOPLE ARE A PART OF THEIR COMMUNITY THROUGH VOLUNTEERING AND JUST DOING THINGS EVERYDAY (LIKE BUYING THEIR LUNCH OR GOING SHOPPING) WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE BSG STAFF. MANY PEOPLE ENJOY GIVING BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITY INCLUDING PEOPLE SUPPORTED BY THE BSG. VOLUNTEERING WAS A REGULAR OPPORTUNITY IN 2019/20 WITH THE PEOPLE SUPPORTED BY BSG PROVIDING OVER 750 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE UNTIL COVID-19, THEN PEOPLE WE HAD TO SHELTER-IN-PLACE. (UNFORTUNATELY PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ARE FOUR TIMES MORE LIKELY TO CONTRACT COVID-19. THOSE THAT CONTRACT COVID-19 DIE AT NEARLY TWICE THE RATE AS OTHERS FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS, INCLUDING A HIGHER RATE OF PREEXISTING HEALTH CONDITIONS, LIVING IN A SETTING WITH ROOMMATES OR GROUP HOMES, ETC.) SO NAPA VALLEY SUPPORT SERVICES (NVSS) ROSE TO THE OPPORTUNITY CREATING ALTERNATIVE SUPPORTS LIKE CALLING FOR WELLNESS CHECKS, TALKING TO PEOPLE ON THE PHONE TO HELP THEM FEEL BETTER AND DEVELOPING OVER 27 WEEKLY ON-LINE ZOOM CLASSES. THE CLASSES INCLUDE VIRTUAL FIELDTRIPS, BINGO GAMES, LUNCH SOCIALS, SPANISH, MEDITATION AND MUCH MORE.

NAPA PERSONNEL SYSTEM (NPS) A CARF ACCREDITED PROGRAM SINCE 1985, PROVIDED SERVICES TO OVER 145 INDIVIDUALS IN FISCAL YEAR 2019-20. THIS WAS A DECREASE OF APPROXIMATELY 5 PERCENT OVER LAST FISCAL YEAR. THE DECREASE WAS DUE TO LOSS OF SERVICES DURING COVID-19. 145 PEOPLE WERE SUPPORTED BY NPS:75 PEOPLE WITH A VARIETY OF DISABILITIES70 PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES 38 PEOPLE SUPPORTED BY NPS WERE PLACED IN A JOB:28 PEOPLE WITH A VARIETY OF DISABILITIES WERE PLACED IN A JOB.10 PEOPLE WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY WERE PLACED IN A JOB. MANY PEOPLE SUPPORTED BY NPS WORKED IN ESSENTIAL JOBS AND NPS STAFF HAD TO QUICKLY LEARN HOW TO CORRECTLY USE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND ASSIST THE PEOPLE THEY SUPPORTED TO DO THE SAME. NPS ADAPTED AND SO DID THE PEOPLE WE SUPPORT. EVERYONE PULLED TOGETHER TO ENSURE ESSENTIAL JOBS WERE COVERED.
