PIQE'S NINE-WEEK PARENT ENGAGEMENT IN EDUCATION PROGRAM PROVIDES A SUPPORTIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE THAT MOTIVATES PARENTS AND PROVIDES THE KNOWLEDGE AND RESOURCES NECESSARY TO SUPPORT THEIR CHILDREN IN THEIR ACADEMIC CAREER. OUR FOCUS IS TO CREATE A COLLEGE-GOING CULTURE AND GIVE PARENTS THE INFORMATION, SKILLS AND TOOLS THEY NEED TO ENSURE THAT THEIR CHILDREN ARE PREPARED FOR A POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION.
S.T.E.M. PROGRAM IS A TWO-LESSON CURRICULUM EDUCATES PARENTS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF HELPING THEIR CHILDREN BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION IN MATH AND SCIENCE. PARENTS LEARN THE MEANING OF STEM AND RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF FOSTERING CAREERS IN THESE AREAS. THEY LEARN FUN AND INTERACTIVE WAYS TO TEACH THEIR CHILDREN ABOUT STEM CONCEPTS IN THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES. THE CURRICULUM ALSO STRESSES HOW PARENTS CAN CULTIVATE THEIR CHILDREN'S INTERESTS TOWARDS A STEM CAREER.
EARLY K-3 FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM ASSISTS PARENTS TO: (1) BE FAMILIAR WITH THE FIVE LITERACY ELEMENTS: READING, WRITING, LISTENING, SPEAKING, AND THINKING; (2) RECOGNIZE THE STAGES OF READING DEVELOPMENT IN THEIR CHILD; (3) BECOME FAMILIAR WITH ENGAGING ACTIVITIES THAT WILL HELP THEIR CHILDREN IN THE VARIOUS STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT IN THE ACQUISITION OF READING; (4) PRACTICE ACTIVITIES WHICH CAN BE DONE AT HOME TO HELP THEIR CHILDREN LEARN DIFFERENT SKILLSETS IN THE AREAS OF THE LITERACY ELEMENTS; (5) BE AWARE OF THE IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A CHILD'S READING FLUENCY AND THEIR COMPREHENSION; AND, (6) BE ACQUAINTED WITH ACTIVITIES THAT WILL HELP THEIR CHILDREN DEVELOP FLUENCY AND READING COMPREHENSION.
