Deaf Plus Adult Community strives to empower deaf and deafblind individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in a day program enriched in education, and community integration utilizing American Sign Language.
Day Program provides daily educational activities to empower Deaf adults with neurodiversity that includes science, nutritional, independent life skills, and community integration classes to reach social and educational equity. During the year ended June 30, 2020, DPAC served 37 deaf adults, including 10 part-time participants, in the Newark based day program that operates from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, 245 days per year.
Supported Employment Program (SEP) provides employment preparation assistance, job placement to internship opportunities, and job training to participants in becoming competitive employees. With the assistance of Deaf job coaches, prospective applicants receive intensive training according to their career goals. During the year ended June 30, 2020, SEP served 11 participants remotely and 7 participants at their job sites.
Home Community Based Services provide various training using Person Centered Thinking approach. Additionally, the Organization provides Healthy Relationships and Sexuality class for a twenty-week period covering a curriculum on different types of relationships, sex education and how to avoid pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections.
