TO PROVIDE QUALITY EDUCATION THROUGH HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE WITH NATURE.
DURING THE 19-20- PROGRAM YEAR 16,624 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN ENC EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. ENC STAFF NATURALISTS PRESENTED 35,075 HOURS OF INSTUCTION.THE ENC NATURE PRESCHOOL OPENED IN SEPTEMBER 2019 AND REMAINED OPEN THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC, SERVING CHILDREN OF ESSENTIAL WORKERS. 50% SCHOLARSHIPS WERE PROVIDED TO FAMILIES EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. THE SCHOOL IS NOW BACK AT FULL CAPACITY, SERVING A DIVERSE POPULATION OF 72 CHILDREN DAILY.WE WERE THRILLED TO BE ABLE TO OFFER OUR 43RD YEAR OF SUMMER NATURE CAMP IN 2020 DESPITE COVID-19. FROM JUNE 1 - JUNE 19 WE OFFERED CAMPS TO CHILDREN OF ESSENTIAL WORKERS, AND TO THE REST OF OUR COMMUNITY FROM JUNE 22 THROUGH AUGUST 21- TWELVE WEEKS OF SUMMER NATURE CAMPS. TO ENSURE THE HEALTH OF OUR CAMPERS, STAFF, AND VOLUNTEERS, WE TRANSITIONED TO MODIFIED CAMP PROTOCOLS ALIGNED WITH BEST HEALTH PRACTICES. WE WERE STILL ABLE TO EDUCATE AND INSPIRE OVER 600 CAMPERS THIS SUMMER, DESPITE REDUCING GROUP SIZE TO 1/2 OF WHAT THEY WERE IN THE PAST.WE DEVELOPED AND ARE NOW OFFERING A NEW UNIQUE SERVICE, AFTER SCHOOL NATURE CAMPS (ASNC), OUT OF CONCERN FOR OUR COMMUNITY'S KIDS, WHO ARE SORELY MISSING SOCIAL TIME WITH FRIENDS AND MENTORS. ASNC GIVES CAMPERS THE OPPOURUNITY TO GET OUTSIDE FOR FRESH AIR, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, HANG OUT SOCIALLY WITH THEIR PEERS, AND (OF COURSE) CONNECT WITH NATURE. STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH CRITICAL PROGRAMMING TO RE-ENGAGE, RE-CONNECT, AND THRIVE.ANOTHER ACCOMPLISHMENT OF 2019-20 WAS THE LAUNCH OF OUR DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS. THE SCHOOL CLOSURES PRESENTED US WITH AN OPPORTINITY TO MEET OUR MISSION IN A NEW WAY. WE DISIGNED VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS THAT ENGAGED STUDENTS IN CREATIVE WAYS. 39 DISTANCE LEARNING FIELD TRIPS OCCURRED IN 2019-20, REACHING 1,138 STUDENTS.ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FLOURISHED IN 2019-20. VISITORS ENJOYED TINY NATURALIST, MINI NATURALIST, LITTLE NATURALISTS PROGRAMS AND MORE. 793 CHILDREN IN 2019-20. MANY OF THESE PROGRAMS WENT FROM BEING OFFERED A COUPLE TIMES A MONTH TO FOUR TIMES A WEEK DUE TO AN INCREASED INTEREST IN OUTDOOR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE PANDEMIC.
