THE MISSION OF PREVENT CHILD ABUSE CALIFORNIA (PCA CA) IS TO REDUCE CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT.
FIRST 5 SERVICE CORPS: FIRST 5 SERVICE CORPS PARTNERED WITH 33 COUNTY FIRST 5 COMMISSIONS AND COMMUNITY BASED SERVICE SITES TO IMPROVE THE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, LITERACY, AND MATH SKILLS OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN DURING THEIR FIRST FIVE YEARS OF LIFE. THE PRIMARY OUTCOME IS TO PREPARE CHILDREN TO BE READY TO LEARN WHEN THEY ENTER SCHOOL. SERVICES INCLUDE CHILD DEVELOPMENT SKILLS BUILDING THROUGH HOME VISITS, FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER GROUPS, AND CLASSROOMS. PREVENT CHILD ABUSE CALIFORNIA SERVES AS THE INTERMEDIARY UNDER CONTRACT TO THE CALIFORNIA CHILDREN & FAMILIES FOUNDATION. DURING 2019, 74 MEMBERS PROVIDED PRE-SCHOOL TARGETED DOSAGE SERVICES TO 1113 CHILDREN. 88% (976) MET AGE-APPROPRIATE SCHOOL READINESS MILESTONES IN ONE OR MORE AREAS THEY HAD NOT INITIALLY MET. 921 CHILDREN DEMONSTRATED GAINS IN LITERACY, 671 DEMONSTRATED GAINS IN SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL, AND 635 DEMONSTRATED GAINS IN NUMERACY (MATH) SKILLS.
CHILD WELFARE SYSTEMS IMPROVEMENT: CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT AND ITS 20 COUNTY AGENCIES AND COMMUNITY BASED SERVICE SITES THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA UTILIZED 35 AMERICORPS MEMBERS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AND EDUCATION SERVICES TO 1984 PARENTS MOST AT-RISK FOR CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. CWSI SERVICES INCLUDE HOME VISITATION, PARENTING EDUCATION, CASE MANAGEMENT, AND FAMILY STABIIZATION. IN 2019, 1742 PARENTS RECEIVED STABILIZATION SERVICES. 933 PARENTS RECEIVED SERVICES TO ALLEVIATE LONG ERM HUNGER AND 749 PARENTS ACCESSED HEALTH SERVICES. 242 PARENTS COMPLETED TARGETED DOSAGE PARENTING EDUCATION. 72% INCREASED THEIR PARENTING SKILLS BY ONE LEVEL IN THREE OR MORE NURTURING PARENTING CONSTRUCTS AND 99% DID NOT ENTER/RE-ENTER THE COUNTY CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM.
RISE VISTA: THE RESOURCES, INFORMATION, SUPPORT AND EDUCATION FOR FAMILIES VISTA PROJECT (RISE VISTA) BUILDS THE CAPACITY OF FAMILY STRENGTHENING AGENCIES IN CALIFORNIA COUNTIES BY IMPLEMENTING STRATEGIES TO EXPAND AND ENHANCE THE CAPACITY OF COMMUNITIES IN POVERTY TO SERVE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. DURING 2019, 15 VISTA MEMBERS PROVIDED CAPACITY BUILDING SERVICES TO 13 AGENCIES IN 6 CALIFORNIA COUNTIES. ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE: INCREASED ORGANIZATIONAL EFFICIENCY, 1305 VOLUNTEERS RECRUITED WHO SERVED 4083 HOURS, 27,257 IN CASH RESOURCES SECURED AND 83,315 IN IN-KIND RESOURCES LEVERAGED.
