Organizations Filed Purposes: Using the bicycle as a vehicle for learning, Trips for Kids is a national youth development organization that offers adventure trail rides, earn-a bike workshops and bicycle mechanics programs for youth of all communities, especially for those most in need. Our nationwide network of over 50 active independent chapters provides transformative cycling-based experiences and skill development programs through hands-on learning, creative problem-solving and teamwork. Our programs promote healthy recreational activities, environmental awareness and personal empowerment while exposing kids to an alternative lifestyle through cycling and the outdoors. A leader in bringing diversity to bicycling, Trips for Kids has served more than 230,000 youth in urban and rural communities across North America since 1988.

To provide transformative cycling experiences through a network of chapters that promote healthy, recreational lifestyles, environmental awareness, and personal empowerment for young people of all communities, especially those most in need.

Community: In our third year of operations as a stand-alone national non-profit organization, Trips for Kids expanded our reach across our community of youth development advocates and supporters. We began implementation of our goal to reach 60,000 more youth by year ending 2023 through 10% annual growth in chapters, partners, donors and sponsors. Our chapter community, revaluated for adherence to our mission and standards, remains at the 50+ level with new 5 new chapters joining us in Fulton County GA, Miami Beach FL, River City MN, Chattanooga, TN and Wolf Point, MT.As the leading national youth cycling organization focused on diversity and underserved populations, Trips for Kids was invited in 2019 to join the Youth Cycling Coalition, a collective movement of 8 non-profit organizations whose mission to transform the youth bicycling culture in the United States. In collaboration with other bicycle-oriented groups, including Little Bellas, People for Bikes, Safe Routes to School National Partnership, NICA, Free Bikes 4 Kids, USA BMX and USA Cycling, among others we are working together to provide a variety of accessible programs which promote a healthy active lifestyle for all youth regardless of their circumstances.Support and Awareness: We gained or renewed financial support from 34 major corporate sponsors, 4 foundations and over 100 new individual donors. Our collective movement of diversity and access for all resonated through sponsored events, fund raisers, social media campaigns and word of mouth to reach tens of thousands of partners and followers. Our monthly newsletter has over 3,000 subscribers who actively share the Trips for Kids message and increased our social media platforms by 400 new followers.Chapters Resources and Support: In partnership with our bike industry equipment sponsors, in 2019 we shipped support packages, made up equipment donated by our bike industry sponsors, to 45 of our chapters. These packages help support the ongoing trail ride programming conducted by our national network of chapters. The donations of bike parts and accessories are used directly by our chapters and by the kids they serve on the trail and in the bike shop. Each year our chapters take over 600 trail rides supported in part by our industry partners. For our newly formed chapters, we shipped out 4 Chapter Start-up Kits. Each chapter received a fleet of 5 new Giant mountain bikes and $2,000 in bike parts, supplies, accessories and tools. We also launched a new chapter benchmark program to help monitor and provide chapter best practices, technical assistance and launch processes. Organizational Infrastructure: In 2019 we implemented digital automation and information delivery to provide more value to our stakeholders and optimize our stakeholder engagement. Critical to the ongoing support and growth of our chapters, we initiated new platforms to deliver e-commerce, inventory management and online fundraising systems to help fund and support the TFK national effort. We launched a new Trips for Kids online bike shop and National Recyclery, set up a chapter wholesale portal and integrated our inventory, retails and accounting systems. We implemented new software to engage and track participants, donors, volunteers, community partners and sponsors as well as run online fundraisers and hold events. These systems can be replicated and improved upon at the local level to create a more sustainable business model, program growth and increased impact. We are planning to share our best practices with our chapters to help them automate and streamline their operations.
