Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO RAISE FUNDS AND GENERATE COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR THE PRIORITY EQUIPMENT/CAPITAL AND PROGRAM-RELATED NEEDS OF ALAMEDA HEALTH SYSTEM'S FOUR HOSPITALS (THREE ACUTE CARE HOSPITALS AND ONE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL), THREE SKILLED NURSING FACILITIES, AND FOUR CLINICS.
TO RAISE FUNDS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR THE PRIORITY NEEDS OF ALAMEDA HEALTH SYSTEM.
ALAMEDA HEALTH SYSTEM FOUNDATION (AHSF) RECEIVES TEMPORARILY RESTRICTED DONATIONS AND GRANTS FOR PRIORITY PROGRAMS AND EQUIPMENT/CAPITAL NEEDS OF ALAMEDA HEALTH SYSTEM (AHS). AHS SERVES MORE THAN 150,000 PATIENTS/YEAR. THE LARGE MAJORITY ARE LOW-INCOME AND ARE COVERED BY MEDI-CAL OR UNINSURED. AHS LACKS FUNDS TO INVEST IN ESSENTIAL MODERN EQUIPMENT AND FACILITY UPGRADES. AHSF RECEIVES SINGLE- AND MULTI-YEAR GRANTS/PLEDGES FROM FUNDERS/INDIVIDUALS. THE TOP FUNDING PRIORITY IN THE REPORT PERIOD WAS EQUIPMENT/CAPITAL. THESE PROJECTS SPAN SEVERAL YEARS AND FUNDS ARE DISBURSED OVER MULTIPLE YEARS. DURING THE PERIOD, FUNDS RESTRICTED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF AN MRI SUITE AT HIGHLAND HOSPITAL AND FOR MODERN IMAGING EQUIPMENT AT SAN LEANDRO HOSPITAL WERE RELEASED.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: THE LARGEST PROGRAM EXPENSE DURING THE YEAR REPORTED HEREIN WAS FOR AHS'S CAREER AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE, HEALTHPATH, WHICH PROVIDES WORK-BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR YOUTH FROM UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES SERVED BY AHS.
SERIOUS ILLNESS CARE: DUE TO THE HEALTH DISPARITIES AND INEQUITIES EXPERIENCED BY AHS'S PATIENTS, MANY HAVE COMPLEX AND LIFE-THREATENING HEALTH CONDITIONS, INCLUDING CANCER AND CHRONIC CONDITIONS (E.G., DIABETES, HEART DISEASE), AND OVERALL THEY TEND TO BE SICKER AND HAVE LOWER LIFE EXPECTANCY THAN THE GENERAL POPULATION. THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC EXACERBATED THESE INEQUITIES. AHSF RAISES FUNDS FOR A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT PREVENTION, SCREENING, TREATMENT, AND MANAGEMENT OF COMPLEX, CHRONIC CONDITIONS, AND PALLIATIVE CARE. IN THE REPORTING YEAR, AHSF ALSO RAISED FUNDS AND IN-KIND GIFTS ($396,011 IN-KIND GIFTS) FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF COVID-19.
