Bay Area Transformative Family Engagement Work GroupThe Bay Area Family Engagement Work Group brings together local education, family engagement, and racial justice organizations across the Bay Area to develop (1) regional standards and measures for Transformative Family Engagement (TFE) in Bay Area school districts, and (2) a regional report card that regularly measures Bay Area school district progress toward TFE.Accomplishments:Engaged staff of Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network, Building Blocks for Kids, Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth, Sacred Heart Community Services, Californians for Justice to launch the TFE StandardsPromoted the TFE Standards locally, regionally, and nationally through the launch of the TFE website and over 25 presentations and workshopsCompleted 12 organization one-on-ones to surface challenges and opportunities in family engagement implementation across the regionHosted 2 organization representatives to attend the United Parents Leadership Action Network (UPLAN) National Gathering and advocated for additional national early childhood and education funding in Washington, DCContinued to participate in the California Family Engagement Network to advance TFE statewideLeadership Development Program (formerly Families for Early Success and Leaders for Engaged and Active Parents)PLANs Leadership Development Program is a coaching-based program that activates a network of Black, Latino, Immigrant and undocumented public-school parents to be leaders of education justice in Bay Area public schools. The PLAN Leadership Development Program aims to develop the leadership of families to invest in their own and their childrens social, emotional, physical and academic development while co-creating leadership goals that build their skills, knowledge and confidence to co-create safe, equitable community schools where transformative family engagement standards are implemented. Accomplishments:20 parent leaders completed Summer Parent Leadership AcademyLaunched the Black Family Engagement Fellowships in partnership with the J4OS Coalition with 8 FellowsLaunched Parent Organizing Fellowship with 2 cohorts of 8 Fellows completing fellowshipConducted 16 workshops for 230 families on navigating the education system and Know Your Rights in English, Spanish and ArabicLaunched a School Site Council Network with over 40 active SSC members engaging on how to best advocate for transparency in Title I and Local Control Funding Formula Supplemental and Concentration spending that increases or improves services for low income, English language learners and foster youthProvided 12 parent leaders coaching support to launch and implement school improvement projects across three school districts: Oakland Unified School District, Hayward Unified School District and Alum Rock School DistrictTranslated 10 modules of workshops into ArabicSustained annual volunteers at 120 parentsParent Organizing Program (formerly Leadership, Equity, Advocacy and Democracy (LEAD) Program) Parent Organizing Program is a leadership development and organizing program focused on the leadership of public-school parents and community leaders to take action through advocacy and organizing to build their power to win resources for our schools and communities. Through fundraising, PLAN raises resources to support families that have been economically impacted, who need assistance with implementing distance learning.
