Organizations Filed Purposes: The Black Organizing Project is a Black, member-led community organization working for racial, social, and economic justice through grassroots organizing and community building across the Bay Area.

BOSS (Bettering our School System):BOSS works to end the criminalization of Black and Brown students in the Bay Area, especially in the Oakland Unified School District, and to end the practices that fuel and perpetuate the school-to-prison pipeline. We have eliminated Oakland USDs own police department, which included sworn officers as well as security officers. We have helped to develop policies that require transparency and accountability for police and security officers, including: a process for the public to file complaints against police and security officers; formal restrictions and clarity about the role of police in schools; and data collection and public reporting of school-based arrests, complaints, and incidents. Members lead the campaign and continue to be the guiding force toward winning change. Our members are the folks who most benefit from these policies, which are creating a healthier, safer environment for families in the Bay Area.

Youth & Multigenerational Leadership:BOP develops future leaders through a number of means. Adult and youth community members participate in trainings, dialogues, book clubs, and peer learning. These spaces provide healing and transformation and connect members to themselves and their communities. Members develop analysis, strengthen leadership skills, and build a powerful vision for the future. Youth participants benefit through a number of programs. Through Youth Space we have created a welcoming place for Black youth ages 12-19 that empowers them to develop an analysis and create a vision for changing conditions within their schools and communities. We have hosted a summer camp for youth and young adults. Through our internship programs we bring youth and adults into appropriate roles in all of BOP's work.

Communications:Through our strategic communications and digital organizing strategies, BOP communicates to its members as well as to a broader constituency of supporters and allies. We use tools such as social media, video production, newsletters, and communications internships, to heal the collective community through storytelling. Our broad communications strategy allows us to connect the lives and stories of folks in the Bay Area to those of folks in other parts of the country and the world. Specifically we have tailored weekly posts with infographics through social-media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to draw attention to systemic racial oppression of Black people. The intention of our communications is to draw a connection from individual injustices to the larger systemic issues. Communicating our work in these arenas has been helpful in educating people around the world of the truth we experience every day and in shifting the narrative around violence and safety.
