Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF FOOD BANKS IS TO ELIMINATE HUNGER IN CALIFORNIA.

CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF FOOD BANKS IS THE LARGEST HUNGER-RELIEF ORGANIZATION IN THE STATE, WITH A FOOD BANK NETWORK OF 41 MEMBERS ACROSS CALIFORNIA. WE PURSUE OUR MISSION OF ENDING HUNGER IN CALIFORNIA THROUGH THREE COMPLEMENTARY AND MUTUALLY SUPPORTIVE PROGRAMS FORTIFYING THE CHARITABLE AND PUBLIC NUTRITION SAFETY NET.

FARM TO FAMILY PROGRAM:THE NATION'S LARGEST CHARITABLE FOOD RECOVERY PROGRAM, FARM TO FAMILY PARTNERS WITH A NETWORK OF 240+ GROWERS, FARMERS, PACKING HOUSES, AND AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATIONS TO DELIVER FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AND PROTEINS LIKE DAIRY AND POULTRY TO OUR FOOD BANKS ACROSS THE STATE. IN 2019, FARM TO FAMILY SUPPLIED FOOD BANKS WITH 170 MILLION POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE AND PROTEINS, ENSURING THAT THE CHARITABLE FOOD SAFETY NET OFFERS ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS, FRESH FOODS.

CALFREASH OUTREACH:CALFRESH IS CALIFORNIA'S NAME FOR SNAP, THE FEDERAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE ANTI-POVERTY PROGRAMS IN THE NATION. CAFB'S CALFRESH OUTREACH PROGRAM SUPPORTS 50+ COMMUNITY PARTNERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE IN THEIR EFFORTS TO ENROLL ELIGIBLE CALIFORNIANS, HELP THEM KEEP THEIR BENEFITS, AND EDUCATE STAKEHOLDERS. PRIORITIES IN 2019 INCLUDED PROVIDING CALFRESH ELIGIBILITY TRAININGS, SUPPORTING PARTNERS' EFFORTS TO REACH NEWLY-ELIGIBLE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND SENIORS, AND PREPARING PARTNERS FOR CHANGES IN CALFRESH POLICY.

POLICY AND MEMBER SERVICES:PUBLIC POLICY - CAFB'S ADVOCACY TEAM IS A LEADING VOICE IN THE FIGHT TO ERADICATE FOOD INSECURITY AND HUNGER IN CALIFORNIA, ADVANCING CRITICAL ADMINISTRATIVE, BUDGETARY AND LEGISLATIVE INITIATIVES AT THE STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS TO PROTECT AND STRENGTHEN THE FOOD SAFETY NET. THIS PROGRAM ADVOCATES FOR EFFECTIVE POLICIES AND ADEQUATE FUNDING TO ADVANCE ACCESS, QUALITY, EQUITY, AND RESILIENCE IN THE CHARITABLE AND PUBLIC NUTRITION SAFETY NET. IN 2019, ADVOCACY EFFORTS FOCUSED CHIEFLY ON SECURING STATEWIDE INVESTMENTS IN EMERGENCY FOOD AND CAPACITY, WHILE PROTECTING SNAP/CALFRESH FROM A BATTERY OF FEDERAL ATTACKS THAT WOULD HARM MILLIONS OF CALIFORNIANS, THE VAST MAJORITY OF WHOM ARE WOMEN, CHILDREN, AND PEOPLE OF COLOR.MEMBER SERVICES - CAFB PROVIDES DIRECT SUPPORT AND RESOURCES TO OUR MEMBER FOOD BANKS. WE OFFER TRAININGS, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, COMMUNICATIONS RESOURCES, ADVOCACY TOOLKITS, AND CAPACITY-BUILDING GRANTS TO OUR MEMBERS. WE COMMUNICATE REGULARLY WITH FOOD BANKS ABOUT IMPORTANT POLICY UPDATES, ADVOCACY OPPORTUNITIES, AND SPECIAL INITIATIVES LIKE DISASTER RELIEF AND PREPAREDNESS RESOURCES.
