Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Center for Media Change (CMC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2007. CMC has launched a number of successful projects who, at their core, all use technology and media to foster civic engagement and create positive social change, especially in underserved communities of color. Our diverse portfolio of projects have leveraged many different types of strategies to accomplish our mission, from building technology platforms to democratize media funding, to convening diverse hackathons for government transparency and efficiency, to a hyperlocal news site focused on Oakland, and most recently providing job training and education to remedy the digital divide in our communities and empower youth. CMC project Hack the Hood aims to decrease the digital divide experienced by low-income communities of color. Hack the Hoods mission is to decrease the digital divide by providing real-world learning opportunities that teach low-income youth of color technology, entrepreneurship, and life skills while also helping others in their community.We also provide training, mentorship, networking opportunities, career coaching and job/internship placement services.
