Organizations Filed Purposes: Spurred by the Taliban's destruction of the 1600-year-old Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan, CyArk was founded in 2003 to ensure heritage sites are available to future generations, while making them uniquely accessible today.

CyArk operates internationally using new technologies to create a free, 3D online library of the world's cultural heritage sites before they are lost to natural disasters, destroyed by human aggression or ravaged by the passage of time.

Digital PreservationCyArk works with experienced teams worldwide to record heritage sites using reality capture technologies such as 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry and traditional survey. During 2014, CyArk digitally preserved 18 sites including the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Harlem Fire Watchtower, the slave quarters and estate houses at Natchez National Historic Park, the New York State Pavilion, and the rock art of Gateway Canyons, Colorado, while completing the projects at Mount Rushmore and the Japanese American Confinement Sites at Manzanar, Topaz, and Tule Lake. Education and OutreachCyArk met with governments and organizations worldwide to highlight the opportunities presented by advanced digital technology for the documentation, continuing preservation, and educational interpretation of cultural heritage sites. CyArk presented at heritage preservation conferences, spoke at TEDx Wellesley College, disseminated a monthly informative newsletter, distributed preservation news via its website and social media, and contributed to articles in the Wall Street Journal, Archaeology, and Forbes as well as 33 other publications and television venues. CyArk held workshops for GoUNESCO Ambassadors, prepared STEM curriculum for IBMs Teachers TryScience platform, and released lesson plans on Californias El Camino Real and Rosslyn Chapel. Digital ArchiveCyArks digital documentation of heritage sites is archived in perpetuity and made freely accessible to both professionals and the public through its website, www.cyark.org. During 2014, CyArk added 28 new sites to the Ark, bringing the total to 157. In October 2014, CyArk launched its new interactive, touch-based website. Cyark.org was visited by nearly a million users from 230 countries and territories in 2014.
