TO MAKE OAKLAND'S DIMOND DISTRICT A VIBRANT, SAFE, AND BEAUTIFUL PLACE FOR EVERYONE TO LIVE, WORK, SHOP, AND PLAY. MEMBERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION ARE OPEN TO ALL.

KEEP DIMOND CLEAN (KDC), STARTED IN 2009, IS A DIA PROGRAM THAT AIMS TO KEEP THE DIMOND COMMERCIAL AREA LITTER-FREE AND THEREBY MORE INVITING TO BUSINESSES, CUSTOMERS, AND PEOPLE ENJOYING THE PUBLIC SPACE. THE EFFORT ALSO KEEPS LITTER OUT OF STORM DRAINS, REDUCING POLLUTION OF THE LOCAL CREEK AND THE BAY. VOLUNTEERS REMOVE ABOUT SIX TONS OF LITTER EVERY YEAR ON ORGANIZED WALKS TWO DAYS A WEEK. KDC ALSO FUNDRAISES IN THE COMMUNITY TO PAY A MAINTENANCE COMPANY TO PICK UP LITTER THE OTHER FIVE DAYS OF THE WEEK. STARTING IN 2019, EXPANDED FUNDRAISING HAS ENABLED KDC TO PAY FOR MODEST GRAFFITI-REMOVAL SERVICES AS WELL.

EACH FALL, DIA SHOWCASES ITS DIMOND NEIGHBORHOOD AND LOCALLY CRAFTED, QUALITY BEERS AT ITS FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENT CALLED OAKTOBERFEST. THE FESTIVAL HAS GROWN SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 2008, AND IN 2019 WELCOMED SOME 20,000 PEOPLE OVER TWO DAYS. THE EVENT ALSO FEATURES FOOD, ENTERTAINMENT, AND ARTISANS, AS WELL AS LOCAL SCHOOLS, NON-PROFITS, AND ELECTED OFFICIALS. OAKTOBERFEST HAS BECOME THE LARGEST FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY FOR DIA, ENABLING ESTABLISHED AND NEW COMMUNITY PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS TO FLOURISH.

DIAS OTHER PRINCIPAL PROGRAMS INCLUDE DIMOND PUBLIC ART (DPA), BEAUTIFICATION, COMMUNITY GRANTS, AND EVENTS. DURING THE REPORTING PERIOD, DPA PROVIDED FINANCIAL AND COLLABORATIVE SUPPORT FOR MOSAICS ON LIGHT POLES AND RENOVATION OF TWO MURALS, AND HELD A HOLIDAY EVENT FOR LOCAL ARTISANS TO SELL THEIR CREATIONS. BEAUTIFICATION EFFORTS INCLUDED PLANTING AND CARING FOR TREES, LANDSCAPED AREAS, AND PLANTERS IN THE COMMERCIAL DISTRICT. A COMPETITIVE GRANTS PROGRAM WAS LAUNCHED TO ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS TO UNDERTAKE PROJECTS THAT BENEFIT THE DIMOND, AND EIGHT GRANTS WERE AWARDED. DIA-SPONSORED EVENTS INCLUDED COMMUNITY MEETINGS ON ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS, COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERISM, ENGAGING WITH LOCAL OFFICIALS, AND WILDFIRE PREVENTION.
