Organizations Filed Purposes: Hopalong and Second Chance Animal Rescues mission is to eliminate the euthanasia of cats and dogs through rescue and spay/neuter programs. Hopalong rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes over 1,600 shelter pets a year.

Hopalong is the largest, all- foster-based animal rescue organization in the San Francisco Bay Area with over 620 foster homes and 580 volunteers in San Francisco, the East Bay and Marin County. Hopalong is also highly involved in emergency disaster response, particularly California wildfires, by evacuating shelter animals, helping rehome pets whose families have lost their homes and helping to treat animals post fires for fire-related medical issues. In 2019, Hopalong continued to expand its Marin foster base (in addition to the East Bay and San Francisco foster homes) through its satellite office in Marin. During emergency relief efforts, Hopalongs foster and volunteer bases temporarily doubled in size. The average length of stay in foster care is 2.5 weeks, and full medical care

and treatment is given to all animals before adoption in addition to vaccines and spay/neuter surgeries. This medical support comes from 6 Bay Area veterinary offices and 5 emergency businesses not including outside oncology, neurology and ophthalmology specialists. Hopalong continued to experience an increased number in owner surrenders, and Hopalong's goal remains to stay upstream of shelter intake to prevent pets from winding up in local shelters as much as possible. Hopalong works very closely with their valued shelter partners and other rescue groups throughout Northern California, and believes that networking together is key to their life-saving work.

Hopalong has a total of 9 cat adoption sites in partner stores and 16 adoption condos in the East Bay, San Francisco and Marin including San Francisco's only cat caf, KiTea. In addition, Hopalong holds 2 dog adoption mobiles each Saturday in various East Bay and Marin locations. It is noted that Hopalong Animal Rescue had approximately $300,000 in contributed veterinary and $153,000 in contributed facilities program related expenses during 2019 which are not included in contributed revenue or expenses per the Form 990 instructions. Program related expenses would be approximately $1,462,000 or 90% of total expenses with the contributed services and facilities.
