III. Emerald New DealComing out of InAdvances Bring Up the Towns Equity Score! campaign, the Emerald New Deal proposes equity solutions to invest in historically-neglected neighborhoods in Oakland. Specifically, focus groups in the campaign identified Oaklands Cannabis Tax Revenue as an important source to invest in communities most impacted by the War on Drugs. This new project has begun to document personal experiences and historical policies that have contributed to the negative impacts of the War on Drugs on Oaklands communities of color. This will pave the way for a broad-based community education campaign in 2020 and beyond.
