Working together to ensure that every Oakland child learns and loves to read.
Mini Grants & Book Distributions: The Oakland Literacy Coalition distributes books to Oakland families and provides mini grants to support public schools, preschools, and nonprofit community-based organizations to host family literacy events. In the 2019-20 school year and summer, the OLC distributed over 20,000 books to our community.
Coalition Network: The Oakland Literacy Coalition provides convening and continuous learning opportunities to strengthen the field of literacy providers and amplify their combined impact. Through our network activities, our members and partners have access to high-impact opportunities to learn, collaborate, and champion literacy.
Oakland Reads: The Oakland Literacy Coalition spearheads the Oakland Reads Campaign to inform, engage, and connect our community with resources and opportunities to support early literacy with the goal that students leave third grade with proficient reading skills and a strong foundation for future learning. We create awareness campaigns and support community events that champion early learning and connect families with books.
