Prosperas cooperative development program provides intensive training, coaching, and technical assistance to low-income Latinas to cultivate leadership, grow successful cooperatives, and transform communities.
2019 Program accomplishmentsOutreach and Community Education ProgramsProspera held the Third Annual Summit for Latina Entrepreneurs in partnership with the City of Oakland with a total of 156 participants: 74 were Latina entrepreneurs from across the Bay Area, 14 informational tables, 7 tables of Mercadito Prospera and Free health services by Street Level Health Project.We offered 3 Cafecitos Legales in partnership with the Sustainable Economies Law Center to support Latina owned business to access to legal advice to launch their businesses. We partnered with Google to offer a training on Google Suite.Core Programs - entrepreneurship, leadership development and cooperative business ownershipWe offered a Train the Trainer to expand our training capacity. 5 advanced participants graduated from the first pilot of 14 hours training.39 women graduated from our in-house program with 96% retention rate, from our fundamentals course on cooperative business ownership called Explora.Prosperas incubation program called CRECE tu Cooperativa (Spanish, GROW your cooperative) had 10 very active businesses that supported one another to grow their respective cooperative businesses through the year.On May we launched our paid Fellowship with three Latinas leaders: Anahi Rojas with Professional Eco Cleaning, Nancy Rosales with Pepitos Paletas and Ana Castano with Luna y Sol. By the end of the year these fellows showed a tremendous growth. Anahi increased monthly sales by 77.5%; Nancy increased her sales from $53,000 to $137,000 and for Ana, it helped her get a more accurate picture of what it takes to start a business.Prospera continuing this year organizing tours with successful coops visiting Arizmendi Valencia, & Rainbow Grocery for the Explora and CRECE participants. Prosperas partnership with Kiva loans strengthened and we became trustees. This allowed our program participants to access and qualify faster and easier to loans.
