Stagebridge is the nation's oldest, most renown theatre of, by and for older adults. Its mission is to transform attitudes towards aging through creative aging programs that offer older adults performing arts opportunities for training and outreach to audiences of all ages.
The Performing Arts Training Institute offers 36 weeks of classes annually in all genres of performing arts, led by top-flight Bay Area teaching artists, and culminating in multiple performance opportunities and professional development/training for students as storytellers and instructors in community venues that serve the aging community.
School Programs - This program includes the acclaimed Storybridge literacy program serving low income elementary schools; elder storytellers and teaching artists introduce children to storytelling, oral history, story creation, writing based on interviews with family elders, and performances of stories before audiences of peers and families; storytelling assembly programs featuring elder storytellers and master storytellers from the Bay Area. These programs serve 10,000 children in schools in Oakland, Alameda, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Richmond, California.
Seniors Reaching Out brings musical and comedic entertainment, performed by Stagebridge senior touring ensembles, to several thousand elders at community venues, including senior centers and residences, adult day care facilities, hospices and hospitals.
