USOAC is a grassroots, multiethnic, intergenerational nonprofit organization focused on issues of concern to Alameda County seniors and their allies. USOAC utilizes organizing techniques to educate, mobilize and enable seniors and their supporters to address issues that affect their quality of life. For more than 30 years USOAC has helped empower older adults throughout Alameda County by serving as a catalyst for positive change and contributing to betterment of senior citizens and the broader community. The summary of main 2019 achievements:- Healthy living festival with nearly 2100 attendees. This is a free event, mainly older adults, who received a meal, resources info, transportation and admission to the oakland zoo, entertainment, activities, civic engagement, give aways, and fun. - Travel training that trained a total of 119 seniors and made 2298 outreach contacts. This program teaches seniors to use public transit and civically engages in education and awareness for affordable, available, and accessible public transit for older adults. - Walkable neighborhoods for seniors that promotes physical activity and pedestrian safety for seniors through our 22 walk clubs. There were 19 walk audits/surveys, 30 service request submitted for improvements on walking routes, 62 presentations, outreach to 143 with 8 site visits. - Other programs include 2020 census outreach, med management, healthy aging & successful living, annual convention convening, civic engagement for affordable senior housing, and overall senior empowerment for a better quality of life.
