Through compassionate, heartfelt expression and empathic, non-judgmental listening, Council inspires a non-heirarchical form of deep communication that reveals a group's vision and purpose. For youth programs- allowing youth to mark times of significance while providing a rich background that helps to frame these experiences. Furthermore, these experiences are grounded within group interaction and relationship, which encourages youth to connect with each other while exploring the depths of their personal selves. For one to five day retreats, youths participate in Council, ropes course activities, art, personal introspection, rites of passage, land-work projects, and they have the opportunity to live together in a village-style format. By combining these activities in a unique way, the Foundation hopes that students will explore the significant transitions of their lives, clarify personal values, explore issues of diversity, and deepen their relationship to nature, themselves, and each other. There were 2 offsite youth retreats during the year.
Rites of Passage- We provide rites of passage experiences for seniors, 8th graders, and other high school & middle school aged youth. Typical programs run up to 5 days in length, and incorporate the practice of council, mindfulness, stewardship of the Land Sanctuary, and trust-building activities. On average we serve approximately 200 youth annually.
