Organizations Filed Purposes: The Shane McConkey Foundation was founded in recognition of the worldwide community of skiers, adventurers and everyday people who share a passion for life. The foundation honors those who inspire positive change in the world and the life of others.Shane McConkey altered the paths of countless friends, acquaintances and strangers through his accomplishments, generous spirit, laughter and his positive outlook on life. He was an innovator, a goofball, a friend, a husband and a father but his zest for life carried into his deep appreciation for the environment and living creatures. The goal of the Foundation is twofold: to carry on this legacy through random acts of kindness and charitable giving and to inspire others to make a difference in the world at large.

AWARENESS EVENTS/ACTIVITIES: The eco-challenge encourages environmental awareness. Students from schools around the nation are invited invited to enter into the Shane McConkey Eco Challenge. Teams of students come up with a creative idea to help fight climate change. Projects were scored in the following 5 categories; Environmental impact (how does your project combat climate change?), Outreach (How does your project promote education and awareness about climate change?), Creativity (How clever is your chosen solution to fight climate change in your school?), Completion (Were the results of your completed project successful?). Shane McConkey Eco Challenge is a competition that we bring to the schools. We ask children to do something environmental and then submit what they have done to our foundation. The winners are awarded with great prizes for the kids and prize money for environmental initiatives/projects in schools. This year's winners (2019) were: 1st place Hot Springs High School climate education and reduce single use plastic, 2nd place No Tahoe High School and Sierra Watershed Education Partnership energy conservation, and 3rd place to Tahoe Expeditionary Academy for reducing single use plastics in the restaurant industry.
