Organizations Filed Purposes: PAPPA provides quality art education to students in grades 1 through 8 in Palo Alto, California and the mid-peninsula area

PAPPA provides quality art education conveniently and economically to children in grades 1 through 8 in Palo Alto, California and surrounding areas.

PAPPA artist teachers provided after school classes in ceramics, drawing, painting, outdoor sketch, cartooning, and sculpture with emphasis on process and product, for children in grades 1 through 5. Classes were in 3 sessions spanning 30 weeks. Classes met weekly for 1.5 hours at Palo Alto elementary school campuses. Class sizes are 8 to 15 students, providing ample opportunity for individual instruction and creativity. At the end of each multi-week session, the PAPPA board of directors honored participants with an art exhibit and reception for the students, their families, and friends. Approximately 400 students were served and welcomed. All students seeking scholarship assistance were admitted to all classes. PAPPA does not limit scholarship assistance to a specific number or percentage, but lets parents pay what they can afford, whether partial or nothing at all.

On selected school holidays, single day day-long art studios were offered featuring various art classes. During spring break and summer vacation, theme-based interdisciplinary arts camps were offered for grades 1 through 8. Students and instructors interpreted the camp theme through music, drama, dance, and visual arts. Both one-day art studios and one-week arts camps meet on designated elementary school campuses. The focus theme of the art studios was honing one's ability to see and create. Art camp themes were multicultural arts of a culture or country. In each session, studio, or camp, students worked in several mediums: pencil, chalk, paint, or sculpture.

During Youth Art Month, PAPPA offered a figure drawing workshop for high school students, taught by an internationally recognized artist/teacher and a live professional model. At no cost to them, the students experienced a lively 2 hour evening workshop. The high school art teachers also attended the class and have appraised the workshop as very valuable for their students. PAPPA board members provided dinner and refreshments for the student artists and teachers before and after the workshop.
