POST IS CREATING A NETWORK OF PROTECTED LANDS WHERE PEOPLE AND NATURE CONNECT AND THRIVE. THESE LANDS ARE PRESERVED FOREVER SO PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS BENEFIT FROM THE CAREFUL BALANCE OF RURAL AND URBAN LANDSCAPES THAT MAKE OUR REGION EXTRAORDINARY.

LAND TRANSACTIONS:-ESTABLISHED THE NORTH COYOTE VALLEY CONSERVATION AREA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SANTA CLARA VALLEY OPEN SPACE AUTHORITY AND THE CITY OF SAN JOSE (688AC IN FY20 WITH ADDITIONAL ACREAGE PROTECTED IN FY21).-ACQUIRED CALERO LAKEVIEW, PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY TO EVENTUALLY ADD ITS 136 ACRES TO CALERO COUNTY PARK.-PROTECTED UVAS SOUTH, 347 ACRES OF HIGH-QUALITY WILDLIFE HABITAT IN THE SOUTH BAY.-PURCHASED A MAJORITY INTEREST IN THE 600-ACRE SOUTH COWELL RANCH WITH PLANS TO UPGRADE THE EXISTING CONSERVATION EASEMENT AND TRANSFER THE HILLY AREA FOR POTENTIAL PUBLIC ACCESS.-PRESERVED GORDON RIDGE, 540 ACRES OF RANCHLAND IN SCENIC SAN GREGORIO, ALONG WITH 38 ACRES OF NEARBY FARMLAND CALLED RISING ACRES.-TRANSFERRED LAND TO OUR PARTNERS FOR LONG-TERM CARE AND PUBLIC ACCESS PLANNING: - GORDON RIDGE TO MIDPENINSULA REGIONAL OPEN SPACE DISTRICT - TUNITAS CREEK BEACH TO SAN MATEO COUNTY PARKS - JUST OVER 87 ACRES AT WAVECREST TO COASTSIDE LAND TRUST - 320 ACRES OF MATURE REDWOODS AT GAZOS CREEK TO SEMPERVIRENS FUND - FISHER FLATS TO THE CITY OF SAN JOSE AS PART OF THE NORTH COYOTE VALLEY CONSERVATION AREA
LAND MANAGEMENT:POST CURRENTLY HOLDS 20,382 ACRES IN FEE OWNERSHIP AND HOLDS CONSERVATION EASEMENTS AND DEED RESTRICTIONS ON 14,458 ACRES.THE ORGANIZATION HAS AN ESTABLISHED STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM FOR THE LANDS IT OWNS THAT INCLUDES RESOURCE CONSERVATION PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT, ALONG WITH ACTIVE USES OF LAND FOR CONSERVATION GRAZING AND AGRICULTURE, SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT AND RESTORATION WHERE APPROPRIATE, AND DEVELOPMENT OF COMPATIBLE RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. POST WORKS TO PROTECT AND MANAGE LANDS IN ITS POSSESSION THROUGH SITE-SPECIFIC STEWARDSHIP PLANS FOR THE NATURAL RESOURCES ON EACH PROPERTY. POST STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS ACTIVELY MONITOR THE ACREAGE ON WHICH POST HOLDS EASEMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS. VOLUNTEERS ALSO ASSIST WITH STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS ON POST-OWNED LAND. IN TOTAL, POST STEWARDSHIP VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED AN IMPRESSIVE 2,091 HOURS OF WORK TIME IN 2020 MONITORING POST-OWNED LANDS, PARTICIPATING IN HIGHWAY CLEAN-UPS, AND MAPPING AND TREATING INVASIVE PLANTS THAT DEGRADE NATURAL SYSTEMS THROUGHOUT OUR WORKING AREA.THESE ARE SOME OF THE MOST IMPACTFUL PROJECTS WE IMPLEMENTED IN ORDER TO CARE FOR THE LANDS WE PROTECT: -AT SAN VICENTE REDWOODS: - WORKED WITH THE AMAH MUTSUN NATIVE STEWARDSHIP CORPS AND CAL FIRE TO PILE UNWANTED FOREST FLOOR FUEL IN 30 ACRES AND CONDUCT A CONTROLLED BURN. - CONDUCTED A 25-ACRE PRESCRIBED BURN WITH CAL FIRE ALONG EMPIRE GRADE ROAD AT SAN VICENTE REDWOODS. - IN AREAS OF SIGNIFICANT WILDLIFE ACTIVITY, WORKED WITH VOLUNTEERS TO STRATEGICALLY CUT FENCE GAPS AT FILICE RANCH, ALLOWING ANIMALS TO MOVE FREELY ACROSS THE LANDSCAPE.- RALLIED 11 ORGANIZATIONS AROUND A LONG-TERM PLAN FOR THE BAY TO SEA TRAIL AND COMPLETED A LETTER OF INTENT FROM ALL INVOLVED TO CARRY THE PROJECT FORWARD.- WITH SMCP, BEGAN AN EARLY-STAGE PUBLIC INPUT PROCESS FOR TUNITAS CREEK BEACH BY CREATING AND ROLLING OUT A COMMUNITY SURVEY.- COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW BRIDGE AT CLOVERDALE COASTAL RANCHES VITAL ACCESS TO 4 FARMING AND RANCHING OPERATIONS. - MADE SIGNIFICANT REPAIRS TO THE BARN AT JOHNSTON RANCH TO ALLOW FOR FULL FUNCTIONALITY, INCLUDING IMPROVEMENTS TO ITS HORSE STALLS, HAY STORAGE, WORKSHOP AND DRAINAGE.- BUILT A NEW RESERVOIR AS WELL AS TWO NEW HOUSING UNITS FOR FARMWORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES AT BUTANO FARMS, IMPROVING THE OPERATION'S SUSTAINABILITY.- BEGAN RESTORATION WORK FOR FISHER CREEK IN COYOTE VALLEY, LED BY THE SANTA CLARA VALLEY OPEN SPACE AUTHORITY, KICKING OFF OUR JOINT EFFORT TO RESTORE THE VALLEY FLOOR'S ECOLOGICAL HEALTH.- CAPTURED RARE FOOTAGE OF A COYOTE AND A BADGER TRAVELING TOGETHER AS PART OF OUR SOUTHERN SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS WILDLIFE CONNECTIVITY STUDY.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION:TO FURTHER OUR COMMUNITY GROWTH AND ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS, IN FISCAL YEAR 2020 THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUED OUR CONTENT MARKETING AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS IN ORDER TO GROW OUR COMMUNITY AND ENGAGE PROSPECTIVE DONORS. BETWEEN NEW PIECES, AND REVISIONS TO EXISTING CONTENT, WE CIRCULATED OVER 40 INFORMATIONAL PIECES INCLUDING GUIDES, BLOG POSTS, PRINT MATERIALS AND PRESS RELEASES. IN THIS WAY, WE ATTRACTED OVER 40,000 NEW COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO OUR EMAIL LIST WHICH IS NOW OVER 100,000 STRONG. WE CONTINUED TO IMPLEMENT DIGITAL DONOR CONVERSION CAMPAIGNS USING OUR CRM AND MARKETING AUTOMATION PLATFORMS. OUR JULY 2019 150 DONOR CHALLENGE CAMPAIGN FELL SHORT OF ITS GOAL, BUT STILL GENERATED 137 PARTICIPANTS AND OVER $9K IN REVENUE. HOWEVER, AT CALENDAR YEAR END, WE IMPLEMENTED A FULL BLOWN MULTIPART DIGITAL CAMPAIGN THAT TOOK PLACE FROM GIVING TUESDAY (THE FIRST TUESDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING) UNTIL DECEMBER 31. THE RESULTS WERE TREMENDOUS DELIVERING OVER $545,000 IN REVENUE AND OVER 2,300 DONORS. AN ALL-TIME RECORD. DONOR SUPPORT REMAINED STRONG THROUGH FISCAL YEAR END, DESPITE THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WITH POST ACHIEVING RECORD ANNUAL OPERATING FUND REVENUES AND DONOR COUNTS OF OVER $5.25 MILLION AND OVER 8,200 RESPECTIVELY. COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND DONORS CONTINUED TO BENEFIT AND STAY CONNECTED TO POST THROUGHOUT THE YEAR VIA OUR MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS AND OUTREACH EVENTS. WE WERE ON PACE FOR ONE OF OUR BETTER YEARS FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND THEN THE PANDEMIC HAPPENED. WE HAD COMPLETED ONE OF OUR LECTURES IN THE WALLACE STEGNER LECTURE SERIES KEVIN FEDARKO AND PETER MCBRIDE, BUT HAD TO CANCEL THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON. THE TEAM TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO QUICKLY PIVOT TO ONLINE EVENTS AND PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE THEIR PERFORMANCE BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS BY EXECUTING 2-3 ONLINE EVENTS EACH MONTH. THESE EVENTS PUSHED OUR ANNUAL TOTAL EVENT REGISTRATIONS TO OVER 16,000 AND WITH 11,000 OF THE SIGN UPS OCCURRING IN THE FOURTH FISCAL QUARTER. TWO SIGNIFICANT EVENTS HAPPENED FOR POST TO PUT US IN THE MEDIA SPOTLIGHT IN FY20. THE FIRST WAS OUR CLOSING OF THE NORTH COYOTE VALLEY ACQUISITIONS IN NOVEMBER 2019. POST WAS MENTIONED IN 109 ARTICLES AND HAD A REACH OF OVER 69 MILLION IMPRESSIONS. THEN IN FEBRUARY, A SHORT VIDEO OF A COYOTE AND A BADGER WENT VIRAL ON SOCIAL MEDIA. POST RECEIVED A LOT OF ATTENTION FOR THIS WITH MENTIONS IN OVER 850 ARTICLES AND A MEDIA REACH OF 3.2 BILLION IMPRESSIONS AND AN ADVERTISING EQUIVALENCY VALUE OF OVER $29 MILLION.POST ALSO PRODUCED AND DELIVERED THREE ISSUES OF OUR LANDSCAPES MAGAZINE THIS YEAR AND DISTRIBUTED EACH TO OVER 10,000 DONORS.
