The primary purpose of the organization is to provide musical and orchestral education for youths ages 6 to 18, to bring student instrumentalists together to learn, rehearse, and perform symphonic music in an educational setting.
During the 2019 fiscal year the organization maintained its membership at over 500 young musicians from a variety of Bay Area communities and economic and cultural backgrounds. Organized into six different orchestras, arranged according to age, interest, and musical ability, the members rehearsed weekly and performed for the community in a variety of concerts. They gave 7 major concerts and 2 chamber music recitals during the regular season, conducted a summer music camp, and conducted an 8 day concert tour of the Baltics, giving concerts in Helsinki, Tallin, and Riga.
