BCP IS DEDICATED TO CREATING AND PRESENTING WORKS THAT ARE INNOVATIVE, DIVERSE, VITAL AND ADVENTUROUS IN AN INTIMATE SETTING.
THE THEATRE AT BOSTON COURT (BCP) PERFORMED 115 PERFORMANCES IN OUR 99-SEAT THEATRE AND 80-SEAT FLEXIBLE PERFORMANCE SPACE. WE ALSO SHOWCASED THREE VISUAL ART EXHIBITS, AND SERVED MORE THAN 7,600 PEOPLE DURING 2019. SINCE OUR FOUNDING IN 2003, WE HAVE PRODUCED 36 WORLD PREMIERE PLAYS, INCLUDING 2019'S LADIES BY KIT STEINKELLNER AND HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN BY E.M. LEWIS OUTREACH TO OUR COMMUNITY INCLUDES MASTER CLASSES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND WORKSHOPS FOR PLAYWRIGHTS AND ACTORS. WE HELD FOUR FREE EVENTS, WHICH ATTRACTED MORE THAN 500 PEOPLE TO BOSTON COURT. IN 2019, 1,298 FREE OR REDUCED PRICE TICKETS WERE DISTRIBUTED.
IN 2019, BCP SOLD MORE THAN 7,200 TICKETS TO 119 PERFORMANCES AND 33 TALK-BACKS AND ENGAGEMENT EVENTS, SERVING 2,020 UNIQUE HOUSEHOLDS WITH A 78% AUDIENCE RETENTION RATE FROM 2018. THE THEATRE SEASON INCLUDED TWO WORLD PREMIERE PLAYS, WHILE THE CONCERT SERIES FEATURED 8 WORLD PREMIERE COMPOSITIONS. BCP ALSO RECEIVED A LICENSE TO SCREEN NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE (NTLIVE) PLAYS FROM LONDON'S WEST END, ADDING A NEW ARTISTIC PROGRAM TO ITS REGULAR REPERTOIRE. IN THE FALL, THE BCP BOARD OF DIRECTORS ADOPTED AN EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVE, COMMITTING TO ACTIVELY CULTIVATE GREATER DIVERSITY AND REPRESENTATION IN BOARD, STAFF, PATRONS, ARTISTS AND ART, THAT REFLECTS OUR COMMUNITY MAKEUP. UNDER THE NEW CO-LEADERSHIP OF MANAGING DIRECTOR CHERYL RIZZO AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR JESSICA KUBZANSKY, BCP HAS REALIGNED STAFF AND RESOURCES TO THIS END, AS WELL AS SHIFTING THE PROGRAMMING CALENDAR AND SEEKING NEW PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL PASADENA INSTITUTIONS.
MAIN STAGE PRODUCTIONS ARE NEW WORKS OR RE-ENVISIONED CLASSICS, PASSIONATE, ARTIST-DRIVEN PLAYS THAT OPEN MINDS AND HEARTS, AND URGE ARTISTS TO FEARLESSLY AND PASSIONATELY PURSUE THEIR UNIQUE VOICE AND VISION. CONCERTS SPAN A VARIETY OF GENRES INCLUDING CLASSICAL, JAZZ, CONTEMPORARY, WORLD MUSIC, CHORAL AND MORE. MUSIC ARTISTS RANGE ACROSS ALL LEVELS OF THEIR CAREER, FROM ESTABLISHED PROFESSIONALS TO EMERGING ARTISTS, AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO PERFORM WORKS THAT ARE EXPERIMENTAL AND/OR COMPLETELY NEW. ART UPFRONT HIGHLIGHTS LOCAL ARTISTS THAT EXPLORE THEMES CONNECTED TO THE MUSIC AND THEATRE PROGRAMMING, BRINGING THE CONVERSATION BEYOND THE PERFORMANCE SPACE.
