WESTRIDGE IS AN INDEPENDENT, FORWARD-THINKING GIRLS' SCHOOL COMMITTED TO EDUCATING INTELLECTUALLY ADVENTUROUS THINKERS, AND COURAGEOUS, COMPASSIONATE LEADERS. WE STRIVE TO PREPARE YOUNG WOMEN TO LIVE LIVES OF MEANING, CONTRIBUTION, AND IMPACT.
107-YEAR-OLD INDEPENDENT DAY SCHOOL FOR COLLEGE-BOUND GIRLS, GRADES 4-12, LOCATED IN PASADENA.
FOUNDED IN 1913, WESTRIDGE SCHOOL IS AN INDEPENDENT DAY SCHOOL FOR 525 COLLEGE-BOUND GIRLS, GRADES 4 THROUGH 12, LOCATED IN PASADENA, CALIFORNIA. OFFERING AN INTELLECTUALLY ENGAGING AND CHALLENGING CURRICULUM, THE PROGRAM OFFERS BALANCE AMONG HUMANITIES, MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS, AND ATHLETICS. THE 63 MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 2020 EARNED 450 ACCEPTANCES TO 156 DIFFERENT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN 31 STATES, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, CANADA, CHINA, FRANCE, AND IRELAND. NINETY-EIGHT PERCENT OF THE CLASS OF 2020 WILL ATTEND FOUR-YEAR COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, SPANNING 40 DIFFERENT COLLEGES IN 16 STATES, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND IRELAND. AT WESTRIDGE, THE FOCUS OF LEARNING IS FOR EACH STUDENT TO MAKE AN INDIVIDUAL CONNECTION TO, AND BE FULLY ENGAGED WITH, THE MATERIAL. RATHER THAN SIMPLY RECEIVE AND REPEAT INFORMATION, WESTRIDGE STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO THINK INDEPENDENTLY AND CRITICALLY. THEY ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEE THEMSELVES AS CONTRIBUTORS TO THE BODY OF HUMAN KNOWLEDGE, NOT MERELY AS BENEFICIARIES. ELECTIVES AND ADVANCED COURSES OF STUDY ARE AVAILABLE AND ALLOW EACH GIRL TO DISCOVER AND THRIVE WITHIN HER AREA OF INTEREST AND STRENGTH. CROSS-CURRICULAR COLLABORATION ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO BROADEN THEIR UNDERSTANDING, COMPREHENSION, AND APPLICATION OF WHAT THEY LEARN BY MAKING CONNECTIONS WITHIN INTERSECTING DISCIPLINES. LIKEWISE, THE SCHOOL PROMOTES BALANCE BETWEEN THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM AND STUDENT LIFE EXPERIENCES THAT SUPPORT INTELLECTUAL, SOCIAL, ARTISTIC, PHYSICAL, ETHICAL, AND EMOTIONAL GROWTH. STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN INTERIM AND DISCOVERY WEEK, WHICH FEATURES NON-ACADEMIC EXPERIENTIAL PROGRAMS THAT FOSTER CREATIVITY, CURIOSITY, CONNECTION, REFLECTION, AND RESPONSIBILITY. THIS NON-ACADEMIC PROGRAM STRIVES TO DEEPEN STUDENTS' AWARENESS OF THEIR OWN INTELLECTUAL AND EMOTIONAL GROWTH AS THEY DEVELOP, EXPLORE, AND PURSUE NEW INTERESTS AND PASSIONS. FURTHERMORE, DRAMA PRODUCTIONS ALLOW STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE ON STAGE OR BEHIND THE SCENES; ATHLETIC TEAMS INCLUDE BASKETBALL, CROSS COUNTRY, GOLF, LACROSSE, SOCCER, SOFTBALL, SWIMMING AND DIVING, TENNIS, TRACK AND FIELD, VOLLEYBALL, AND WATER POLO. WHETHER IN A CLASSROOM, ON STAGE, OR ON THE FIELD, WESTRIDGE GIRLS LEARN TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES, BUILD THEIR CONFIDENCE, AND TRUST THEIR TEAMMATES; THEY LEARN WHO THEY ARE, WHAT THEY VALUE, WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER, AND THE SELVES THEY WISH TO BECOME. WITH THE ONSET OF THE PANDEMIC IN MARCH 2020, WESTRIDGE IMPLEMENTED A REMOTE EDUCATION PROGRAM. WESTRIDGE NOT ONLY OFFERED OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM REMOTELY, BUT ALSO MAINTAINED OUR COMMITMENT TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, AND STUDENT SUPPORT FROM ADVISORS, DEANS, PSYCHOLOGIST, AND COLLEGE COUNSELORS. THESE HALLMARKS OF THE WESTRIDGE EXPERIENCE ALWAYS HAVE BEEN FOUNDATIONAL TO OUR STUDENTS' ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND WELLBEING AND ARE EVEN MORE IMPORTANT AS THEY STRUGGLE TO PROCESS A WORLDWIDE HEALTH CRISIS AND SOCIAL ISOLATION. THOUGH THE METHODS AND PACE OF LEARNING MAY BE DIFFERENT THAN IN OUR ON-CAMPUS PROGRAM, SERIOUS, CREATIVE, ACADEMIC AND PERSONAL GROWTH IS HAPPENING IN "WESTRIDGE WITHOUT WALLS."
