Organizations Filed Purposes:
STS Academy's mission is to bridge the gap between inner-city youth who prosper and benefit from the public school system and those who struggle and sometimes fail.
PITTSBURG UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT After School Programs on PUSD Campuses: STS Academy provided After School services to 8 elementary and 3 junior high schools in the City of Pittsburg. STS served approximately 1,400 students each school day from low income households. Students received homework assistance, enrichment and physical fitness daily. All services were provided in a safe and healthy environment, with a nutritious supper provided daily. Students from every after school site participated in the year round sports competitions (soccer, basketball, volleyball, flag football, and cheerleading) with transportation provided. Students also participated in STS Academy's annual Spelling Bee and World Music and Art Fair. Before School Programs on PUSD Campuses: In addition to After School services, STS Academy also provided Before School services at 2 Junior High Schools (Hillview and Rancho Medanos). We served approximately 80 students daily. Students were given the opportunity to work on homework, play air hockey, foosball, video games, sports, etc. A hot breakfast was provided each school day for each student.
THE LEARNING CENTER - STS Academy provided before and after-school services at The Learning Center (60 Civic Avenue) serving approximately 100 students daily. STS provided transportation to and from school for all participants. Kindergarten - 8th grade students received tutoring, homework assistance, access to a customized online academic curriculum called Stride, and nutritious hot meals every school day. We introduced a new, innovative program for students to learn Coding and the program was a success. At the Learning Center, we also have a Drop in Teen Center where high school students participate in competitions, play competitive sports, and enjoy other organized gaming.
21st CENTURY - STS Academy provided After School services to approximately 230 Pittsburg High School and Black Diamond High School students daily. We offered the following programs/classes: Tutoring, Teens to Teach, Cosmetology, Barber Shop, Driver's Education, Youth Voice and Culinary. Students also benefitted from Strength and Conditioning sessions offered by credentialed teachers and coaches. Every participant was provided a nutritious supper. STS created a community garden for our youth to learn how to grow nutritional food for their families.
