Poison Apple Production's mission is to promote increased participation and understanding of live theater by providing affordable performing arts education and enrichment experiences to youth and young adults as well as affordable access to live theater entertainment for members of the community, including children, families, senior citizens and disabled persons. We are strongly committed to achieving these aims in a positive, supportive, respectful and safe environment that encourages learning, creativity and artistic self-expression for all participants regardless of age, ability, gender, ethnic or social background.
Adults and children come together as performers, artists, and family members to create a complete production - from scenic design and construction, properties creation, costume construction, make up and hair design. Finally, our ensemble cast comes together, rehearsing three to four nights a week for six to eight weeks, to tell creative and heartwarming stories that challenge the mind, change the heart, and inspire conversation and further exploration outside the magical walls of the theater space. Our Main Stage Shows are directed and designed (and sometimes written!) by a mixture of passionate youth and professional community artists who work together towards the goal of a memorable theatrical production. Our Main Stage performers are cast by audition only and perform for two to three weekends in shows open to the community.
Our year-round Musical Theater Training program offers 3 tiers of classes for young performers to "catch the bug" of musical theater. These once-a-week classes are designed to teach the basics with an emphasis on teaching children to love performing and theater. Our musical theater classes are fondly called "Apple Seeds." This is where our performers gain experience and learn the basics (the Seeds - get it?) of musical theater performance. Starting at age 5, our program is designed to teach: *Singing Basics - matching pitch, breath support, singing in a group. *Physical Storytelling - using the body through dance, characterization, and coordination. *Teamwork - working as part of a large ensemble. *Listening and Following Direction - there is only one director in theater! *Basic Rules and Language of Theater - backstage and on stage!
