Organizations Filed Purposes: The Museum provides and maintains historical exhibits, traveling exhibits, collections and archives to present educational programs that benefit the general public. We enrich community life through education and preservation.

The Museum creates and displays a series of exhibitions annually that cover a wide variety of topics from local history, art and collectibles. These exhibits integrate local, state and national history along with other disciplines of art and natural history in order to give our guests a more well-rounded approach to the world in which they live. This past year, exhibits included Imagination Expressed 2020 with the Pleasanton Art League, a traveling exhibit, A Great Frontier Odyssey: Sketching the American West, a Smithsonian traveling exhibit entitles Water/Ways-exploring the ways that we use water in our lives, From Slate to Screen: How We Learn-about changes in the Pleasanton Unified School District over the past 100 year and Tao Guan: The Pleasanton Ones: a photojournalists look at life in our community. With the CoVid pandemic, the Museum had to move almost all of these exhibits to an online virtual platform, but we were still able to serve our local community through that media and associated programs.

The Museum's education and family programs make up a significant part of our educational mission. We see every third grade student in the Pleasanton Unified School District who usually come to the Museum for an inductive question focused docent tour that includes a walking tour of our historic downtown. We also offer a monthly preschool reading and craft program that attracts 25-35 children each month. We do an intergenerational Family Day 4 times a year during the summer months. These revolve around themes of community history and life, the Alameda County Fair, and other appropriate topics that might highlight a current exhibit. One Family Day each year focuses on highlighting a cultural group from the community to enhance the community's understanding of our diverse community make up. We host all types of scout groups who attend programs that help them achieve merit badges and who receive a Museum on Main badge too. We have received grants from two of the local Rotary clubs to underwrite the costs of the MoM's Reading Program and our Family Days-both programs are FREE to the public to ensure the greatest accessibility. With the pandemic, all of our programs had to move to virtual platforms, particularly our school and reading programs. Family Days were cancelled and we were not able to host any groups at the Museum this year. While it has not been ideal, our staff has been creative in finding ways to keep our audience engaged in the Museum and its programs.

The Museum holds a series of monthly presentations from January through October where presenters portray historical characters. The presenter does a 45 minute monologue and then answers questions in character for about 30 minutes before stepping out of character to answer questions as the scholar. This past year presentations were slated to represent a diverse mixture of historical people such as: General Attaturk, Rosa Parks, Lady Bird Johnson, Gene Roddenberry, Che Guevara, Thomas Edison, Madame Curie, Jacques Cousteau, William Shakespeare, and Audie Murphy. With the pandemic, we were forced to postpone the season until 2021 where all of the performers have agreed to perform virtually for the 2021 season. It is our most popular program and ticket sales sell out within weeks of them going on sale.
