HSAR's mission is to save the lives of homeless dogs in the regions served. Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to making our communities better through successful adoptions, advancing pet welfare, and creating human education programs.
High Sierra Animal Rescue (HSAR) is a no-kill shelter for homeless adoptable dogs that can no longer be held in county shelters. HSAR provides health, quality of life, and emotional stability for dogs that are adopted into homes in Northern California and Reno, Nevada areas.
Pet adoption fees charged for the commitment of the adopting families to cover a portion of the costs involved in operating a no-kill shelter. All dogs brought into the shelter are provided with medical care, exercise, behavior assessment, socialization and obedience training if needed, and a safe temporary home until they are successfully adopted. To gain exposure, dogs are taken to public retail sites to be seen, and they are posted to the website. This past year due to COVID, we had to suspend the public viewings.
