WATERCOLOR WEST SPONSORS ONE INTERNATIONAL OPEN JURIED EXHIBITION FOR TRANSPARENT WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS EACH YEAR. AN INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN ART JUDGE CHOOSES THE ART FOR THE EXHIBIT, GIVING THE ACCEPTED ARTISTS RECOGNITION FOR THEIR ART. GENEROUS AWARDS ARE MADE TO ALSO ENCOURAGE SUBMISSIONS. TO FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGE MASTERING THE USE OF TRANSPARENT WATERCOLORS, ARTISTS WHO ARE CHOSEN TO SHOW THEIR ART IN THREE OF THE ANNUAL EXHIBITS ARE GIVEN THE RIGHT TO USE THE INITIALS, WW, IN THEIR PAINTING SIGNATURE. WORK ON THE EXHIBIT AND ITS CORRESPONDING CATALOG, IS A YEAR-LONG PROCESS.AFTER THE ART AND AWARDS ARE CHOSEN FOR THE EXHIBIT, A FULL-COLOR CATALOG, FEATURING THE ART IN THE EXHIBIT, IS PUBLISHED. A CD OF THE EXHIBIT IS ALSO MADE FOR SALE TO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES.
WATERCOLOR WEST KEEPS BOTH ITS MEMBERSHIP AND THE PUBLIC INFORMED THROUGH THEIR INTERACTIVE WEBSITE. A COMMITTEE COMPILES QUARTERLY NEWSLETTERS TO RELAY ORGANIZATION NEWS, PROMOTE ARTISTS WHO HAVE RECEIVED AWARDS, ALL PERTINENT INFORMATION ABOUT THE EXHIBITS, THE DEMONSTRATIONS, THE WORKSHOPS AND CURRENT EVENTS. OCCASIONALLY, A REVIEW ON A NEW WATERCOLOR BOOK WILL BE INCLUDED.
THE LECTURES, CLASSES AND DEMONSTRATIONS ARE CONDUCTED YEAR-ROUND BY NATIONALLY KNOWN ARTISTS. OPEN TO BOTH YOUTH AND ADULTS, THE CLASSES ARE TAUGHT AT THE CITY OF BREA'S ART GALLERY, A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, TO FURTHER THE ART EXPERIENCE.
