Organizations order books from Bring Me A Book for children aged pre-school through third grade. The club asks the guest speakers to sign a bookplate that identifies the organization and explains that the book will be given to children at under-resourced sites such as classrooms, clinic waiting rooms, hospitals, or any public place that children frequent with their parents.Book BuddiesThe Book Buddy program expanded to 41 classrooms serving 672 preschool, transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten and first grade students. Classrooms are low-income, including Head Start, state funded Child Development Centers, community-based nonprofit preschools and Title I schools. The 672 students were visited 16 times during the year by their trained Book Buddy, where they engaged in a read aloud time with learning extension activities. The Book Buddy gifted the hardcover book to the classroom library after each of the 16 visits. A total of 672 books were donated to the classroom libraries. Each of the students received 2 hardcover books in English to take and keep at home. (1,112 books) Students whose parents are learning English received an additional 2 books in Spanish. The partners in these events are the preschools/schools that have Book Buddies or other nonprofits that serve low-income communities and foster children.
