TO CREATE K-12 CHARTER SCHOOLS IN THE BAY AREA THAT PREPARE STUDENTS FOR COLLEGE.
PERSONALIZED LEARNING: STUDENTS AND THEIR TEACHER-MENTORS DEVELOP PERSONALIZED LEARNING PLANS IN WEEKLY 1:1 MEETINGS. ALL OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE THE SAME COLLEGE-READY DESTINATION, BUT THE BEST WAY TO GET THERE IS AT THEIR OWN PACE AND USING METHODS THAT WORK FOR THEM. FLEXIBLE CLASSROOM DESIGN: STUDENTS ROTATE AMONG DIFFERENT TYPES OF CLASSROOMS, INCLUDING PROJECT SPACES, COMPUTER LABS, AS WELL AS TRADITIONAL CLASSROOMS. THIS ALLOWS FOR STUDENTS TO LEARN IN A VARIETY OF WAYS, E.G., INDEPENDENT LEARNING, SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION, ONLINE WORK, AND MORE. HIGH EXPECTATIONS: CALIBER WILL PREPARE ALL OF ITS STUDENTS TO ATTEND AND SUCCEED AT COMPETITIVE FOUR-YEAR COLLEGES OR UNIVERSITIES. TEAM TEACHING: WE HAVE RECRUITED GREAT TEACHERS AND DEVOTE SUBSTANTIAL TIME AND RESOURCES TO THEIR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. INSTEAD OF THE TRADITIONAL ONE-TEACHER-PER-CLASS MODEL, OUR TEACHERS WORK IN TEAMS TO DELIVER OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT: OUR STUDENTS LEARN CRITICAL LIFE SKILLS SUCH AS PERSEVERANCE, CONFLICT RESOLUTION, GRATITUDE AND MINDFULNESS. WE OFFER EXPLICIT SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS SUCH AS DAILY COMMUNITY CIRCLES, WEEKLY MINDFULNESS COACHING, AND POSITIVE BEHAVIOR REINFORCEMENT. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND INNOVATION: WE BELIEVE SCHOOL INNOVATION IS AN ONGOING, DATA-DRIVEN PRACTICE. WE ARE CONTINUALLY REFINING OUR PROGRAM BASED ON STUDENT AND TEACHER FEEDBACK AND STUDENT OUTCOMES. UNIQUE LEARNING MODELS: WE TEACH ENGLISH AND MATH THROUGH BLENDED LEARNING, WHICH COMBINES STATE OF THE ART EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE WITH SMALL GROUP AND TEACHER-LED INSTRUCTION. SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES ARE TAUGHT THROUGH PROJECT-BASED LEARNING, WHICH ALLOW OUR STUDENTS TO WORK IN COLLABORATIVE TEAMS AND LEARN BY FOCUSING ON REAL WORLD PROBLEMS. SUPPORTIVE SCHOOL COMMUNITY WITH RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: OUR STUDENTS WILL TAKE CARE OF ONE ANOTHER AS WELL AS THE SCHOOL THROUGH PEER TUTORING, FAMILY-STYLE LUNCHES, SCHOOL-RELATED "JOBS AND DIVERSE, CROSS-GRADE "HOUSES" THAT WILL GIVE STUDENTS OPPORTUNITIES TO SHARE AND RECEIVE SUPPORT. COMPUTER CODING AND COMPUTATIONAL THINKING: ALL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN OUR PIONEERING COMPUTER PROGRAMMING, ENGINEERING, AND ROBOTICS CLASSES DESIGNED TO TEACH FLUENCY IN COMPUTER CODING. THESE HIGHLY ENGAGING BLOCKS TEACH STUDENTS A VARIETY OF IMPORTANT SKILLS INCLUDING LOGIC, NARRATIVE, ATTENTION TO DETAIL, PERSEVERANCE AND COLLABORATION. THESE PROGRAM FOCUSES AND INITIATIVES ENABLE CALIBER SCHOOLS TO CONTINUE TO SERVE APPROXIMATELY 1,700 STUDENTS ANNUALLY.
