Transform the food industry and the food system to reduce diet related diseases and decrease environmental impact by performing REAL certifications of food service providers, including K-12 school programs, and providing educational activities
Increase Real Food Access: Conduct REAL Certification of food service operations within K-12 school districts . REAL Certification evaluates food service operations across a series of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as nutritional content of food and beverages served, preparation methods, portion sizes, and sources of foods. Provide recommendations re: how to improve the menu options and evaluate updates made.
Increase Real Food Awareness: Provide consumer educational information through Eat REAL digital materials, in person meetings/presentations, and virtual meetings/presentations. Provide educational resources to inform consumers and food service professionals re: nutrition and sustainability through www.eatreal.org, newsletters, and social media platforms. Develop and educate on clear set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) regarding nutrition and environmental sustainability within food service.
COVID-19 Response: Eat REAL jumped into action to help schools adding a relief program to safely provide healthy food to families in need by obtaining food donations and protective gear for school workers. Eat REAL supported 2080 schools across California and the United States to increase real food access and education in both English and Spanish. By supporting the critical emergency meal service teams at schools. Eat REAL helped them to continue working and ensured that food could continue to be distributed to an increasing number of vulnerable families relying on food distribution at schools.
