In partnership with nature, YES nurtures leaders who champion the wellbeing of our community.
YES builds character and leadership skills among underrepresented youth and families living in Richmond through four interrelated programs that emphasize relationship building in the outdoors and health and wellness promotion in the community.
Camp-to-Community: 30 teens were actively engaged in the Camp-to-Community (C2C) program. 10 of these teens completed the Youth Engagement Team cohort which included an assessment and study of Nichol Park to make health and wellness improvements. Eight youth participated in the Climate Conservation Cohort (C3) studying the impact of climate change in marine environments. Prior to the onset of the pandemic in mid-March, youth participated in several overnight trips and leadership engagements with Family Camp, Winter Camp, and outings as part of their cohorts.
12 participants took part in the second cohort of the Adult Leadership Pathway (ALP) program, a 6-month cohort designed to increase the leadership capacity of the Richmond community to contribute toward improved community conditions.
Summer Camp: YES did not provide Summer Camp for youth in 2020 due to the Coronavirus. However, YES provided Winter camp to 47 youth, nature day outings, Richmond Ranger outings, and outreach to families to refer them to resources.
