Organizations Filed Purposes: CCAEJ developed the belief that the key to effectively solving community problems lies in bringing the diverse segments of the community together in one strong voice. By utilizing the skills, talents, and knowledge of each community member and tapping into the resources and relationships that are inherent within each community they can identify issues, define solutions, effectively advocate and creat change. Each community member brings their own expertise and talents to the table, combining with others to form a strong community force. Helping individuals recognize their own strengths; learn new skills and develop the confidence to utilize them within a group setting, defines for us grassroots leadership development. The building blocks of every community lie in the relationships at the neighborhood level. We work to enable local residents to be the authorities within their neighborhoods. People have knowledge, contacts and skills that enable them to draw their neighbors into efforts

Goods Movement/Healthy Communities CampaignOver the past several year, our Goods Movement campaign has continued its work to provide support, training and information to communities struggling with the devastating public health affects of air pollution caused by the Goods Movement industry - railroads, inter-modal facilities, and diesel trucks that originate at the ports of Los Angeles (the single largest port complex in the nation). We are actively advocating for Zero Emission solutions for the region. In addition, we are also advocating for land use policies that prioritize community health over industry and that offer adequate buffers between industrial projects and schools and homes. Fontana Slover Overlay Project (proposal to designate neighborhoods along Slover as potential sites for new warehouse projects) Mobilized 30 residents to the Fontana City Council meeting for the Slover Overlay project. Attended & gave public comment at the Fontana City Council meeting on the Slover Overlay. Analyzed the Slover Overlay mitigated negative declaration and wrote formal comments for CCAEJ on the Slover Overlay project. Wrote formal comments on behalf of the Inland Coalition for Equity and Prosperity (IE-ICEP) for the Slover Overlay project. Worked with our representative at Earthjustice on a letter to the City of Fontana regarding their mitigated negative declaration for the Slover Overlay project.Had meeting with City Manager & Development Coordinator at the City of Fontana regarding the Slover Overlay project and DAC designation. Had follow-up community meeting with residents in the Slover Overlay 30 residents attended the meeting. Circulated petition for Slover Overlay residents - they were able to get over 120 signatures within their mobile home park in opposition to the Slover Overlay project. Set up meeting with Mary Sandoval, FUSD School Board President and Jesse Sandoval, Fontana City Councilmember and 10 residents at a local restaurant in Fontana to discuss Slover Overlay concerns. Policy Win! City of Fontana did not vote on project & eventually dropped project!Indirect Source Rule at the South Coast Air Quality Management District Submitted formal comments to SCAQMD supporting a rule in favor of regulating warehouses. Mobilized over 10 community members to the May board hearing. Held a press conference after the board hearing. Had 13 media hits in relation to the ruling. Policy Win! An Indirect Source Rule was passed by a vote of 7-6. Only the second of its kind in the state. Victory resulted in creation of a coalition to work on ISR with East Yards Communities for Environmental Justice, Earthjustice, Sierra Club and Moving Forward Network. In 2018, this coalition met 7 times. California Public Utilities Commission Electrification Proceeding CCAEJ was a party to this proceeding at the CPUC. Mobilized 5 residents to the CPUC hearing held in Fontana on allocation funds for electrification. Submitted formal comments at the CPUC hearing. Assisted in developing talking points with residents for CPUC hearing Policy Win! $738 million was approved by the CPUC to invest in electrification infrastructure and vehicles, the largest investment of its kind in U.S. history. California Air Resources Board Mobilized 37 community members to CARB meeting in Riverside. Gave over 20 community testimonials in favor of zero emission technology and regulations on diesel trucks. Set up meeting with CARB's environmental justice department to speak on concerns happening at the local level. Gave testimony in Sacramento in support of the Innovative Clean Transit Rule, mandating all California public buses to go electric by 2040. Policy Win! Innovative Clean Transit Rule is approved by CARB. AB617 Met with Assemblymember Eloise Reyes about our choices for designated cities for AB617 funding. Gave testimony at CARB hearing in Sacramento in support of San Bernardino as a designated city for 617 selection. Policy Win! San Bernardino was chosen as a designated city for investment and monitoring for AB617 in the first round. Wrote an op-ed asking CARB to prioritize regulations and not to over emphasize incentives in AB617. Attended SCAQMD AB617 kick-off meeting in San Bernardino. Organized informational meeting with 15 San Bernardino residents and gave presentation on AB617 and signed up residents for Steering Committee. 4 community members and 1 representative from CCAEJ were selected as steering committee members for AB617 strategizing in San Bernardino by the SCAQMD. Attended first and only steering committee meeting in 2018. Created comments for Steering Committee Charter. Organized 617 meeting with SCAQMD and 20 community members in San Bernardino. Civic Engagement Program We empower communities to be civically engaged in the democratic process through training, programs and direct contact with decision-makers. We work on issues related to the 2020 Census, boards and commissions and civic engagement. Direct Electoral Activities Door-to-door GOTV: o Total Contacts: 1,200.o Program length: 6 days.o Program Description: We participated in non-partisan GOTV activities for 2018 Primary and General elections. Our GOTV canvassing efforts were in the following cities: Jurupa Valley, Fontana, and Riverside. Our messaging included general information to encourage voter to vote and educational information on ballot propositions. Phone Banking GOTVo Contacts: 2,500. o Program length: 12 days. o Program Description: Our GOTV phone banking campaigns were in the following cities: Fontana, Jurupa Valley, and Riverside, Perris and throughout Riverside County. We did a general GOTV message campaign and ballot proposition education. o Media Reached: social media hits (15 posts). Prop 70 o Total Contacts: 1,700. o Program length: 10 days. o Program Description: Our program only focused in the City of Jurupa Valley. We strategically focused on the City of Jurupa Valley because we have been organizing around various environmental justice issues in this city. Proposition 70's defeat is California's vote to keep Big Oil and corporate interests out of our state's climate policy.o Media Reached: social media hits (30 posts), featured in 8 newspapers and one radio program.
